Owl and Pussycat themed wedding...newly-engaged bride needs advice!

I'm incorporating my fiancee's and my favorite poem, The Owl and the Pussycat, into our wedding as much as possible, and would love to hear any ideas you have on how to do that!  One thing I can't quite decide how to do:  we have a normal size calendar with the various verses and illustrations from the poem that I'd like to use (one monthly calendar page per each of our twelve reception dinner tables) either framed or some other way.  I'd like the theme of the wedding to be a mix of quirky, vintage and whimsical (our venue is an old country church turned into a wedding venue).

Any clever ideas out there?  Maybe a clever signature drink or two based on the theme, too?   I would be so grateful for the help!  Thanks!

  • I agree with Stage -- small touches go a long way when it comes to wedding themes.  Too much, and you run the risk of it looking like a kid's birthday party.   I think the things that Stage described sound wonderful:-)

  • An add on to Stage's suggestion:

Cut out stars of different sizes from a heavy poster board.  Spray on adhesive and then cover in glitter.  You can use as many colors as you want.  Overlap them (in a neat but not uniform way) going down one or both sides of your aisle.

  • Stage beat me to the cake topper idea ... you could give them a tiny veil and bowtie/top hat ...

I agree to keep it to small touches, but I think it sounds charming!
  • I feel like a moron right now, but I am not familiar with that poem....

I probably read in once but for the life of me cannot remember it.  I was going off of what Stage wrote.

By English "nonsense" poet Edward Lear, 1871:

Maybe the signature drink could incorporate honey ('they took some honey, and plenty of money") in some way (mead?). That probably isn't useful. Just a thought.

  • Or use some local honey as the favor since they "took some honey"?

P.S. - Thanks PJSPJS for posting the link!!!
  • Clearly, you'd have to have a signature drink called a "Runcible Spoon." Laughing
