Wedding dress

I am planning a wedding for June 2012 and am going to look at dresses with my Mom tonight. I have already went with a friend and picked out the dress that I love! My question is who paid for your dress? How much was it? And how old were you?

  • Beautiful dress!  I think I may have tried that one on.

I was a Sottero & Midgley bride. I love the S&M and Maggie dresses.

  • You are welcome :)

    Welcome to TK! Happy planning.
  • My dad paid for my dress.  He is paying for about half the wedding, but the fact that he could be me a wedding dress made him happy-I think he had a bit of a weepy, my daughter is getting married moment even though he wasn't there with me when I bought it.

  • I bought my dress at David's Bridal.  I think it was $649.  I fully intended to pay for it and I shopped the entire time like I was buying it.  At the last minute when I was standing at the register, my mom insisted on buying it and said that she and Dad were planning to pay for it the whole time.  I was 22 at the time of dress shopping, 23 for the wedding.

  • Since I'll be wearing my mother's wedding dress - I guess my mom paid for it Laughing; or perhaps my grandparents.  And I have no idea how much it cost.

It's something I've always wanted to do - I sometimes think it's the only reason she kept because I kept telling her I wanted to weart it.

And I'm old - I'm 37 now and will be just shy of 39 when I get married.

  • I went with my FMIL to go dress shopping. I fully intended to buy my dress and even pulled my card out when we were figuring out the taxes and whatnot. My FMIL refussed to let me pay for it and bought it for me. My dress wasx $750 and I was 20 when I was dress shopping.

  • My dress was something like $600.  My mom paid for the deposit, I paid the balance.  I was 23.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I'm 24 (25 on Friday!) and my parents bought my dress. I think it was probably around $3000? I don't know exactly how much it was, as my mom is weird about people knowing what gifts are worth, and I never saw the tag.

  • My FMIL purchased my dress. This was a given from the moment we got engaged. She doesn't any children other then my FI so the dress shopping was important to her. My dress ended up being under $500 because it's an evening gown vs a wedding dress. I'm almost 25.

  • My parents paid for my dress (they offered; I didn't ask).  I was 33 when I got married and the dress was on clearance at DB for $199...and the alterations cost a little more than the dress itself.

My dress was $500 and my fiance paid for it.  He didn't see it but he gave me his card.  Its a tradition where I'm from.  The groom usually buys the bride's attire...shoes, vail, dress....everything she'll wear that day. And I'm 22 but will be 23 on my wedding day.

  • We are paying for the entire wedding ourselves, so naturally, I paid for my own dress too, which was $600.  I'm 23 and will be 24 at our wedding.

    Congratulations on finding a dress.

When I was married the first time, I picked out a beautiful white dress with my parents and sister. It was actually a white prom dress, and needed no alterations. It cost less than $200, and my parents paid for it.
I became pregnant during my engagement, and original dress was no longer a possibility, so my mother in law took me to a going out of business sale at a bridal boutique and she purchased a sample dress for me. It was $200, and needed $250 of alterations. I was 20 years old.

This time, I will be purchasing my own dress. I plan to wear a silk or lace cocktail dress and I'll be sending between a $100 and $300, and planning on paying for slight alterations as needed.
  • My parents paid for it, I think the dress was around $250? I will be 22 at my wedding

  • My first dress cost about $600, which I paid for myself.  I then lost about 40 lbs (a lot on a 5' person) and that dress was clearly not going to work.  My second dress cost I think $450+ tax, which I also paid for.  Alterations only cost $85 because it fit perfectly except it needed to be shortened for my short self.

I am and will be 28 when I get married in 2 weeks.

Congrats on finding a dress you love.  It's not easy!!
