How to handle the "well, I'm not going to wear a bra" situation.

Hi ladies, Happy New Year!

As I sit here (impatiently) waiting for my dress to arrive at David's, I started thinking about the fact that I'm not going to be wearing a bra with my backless dress and don't really want to show my consultant my headlights. Any of you dealt with this?

I was thinking about seeing if my MOH could just help me into it, or would that be disrespectful to my consultant (who is awesome, BTW)? I mean, I've seen my MOH give birth (she's my cousin) so I'm not really fussed about her seeing me topless.

How did you guys handle it? TIA!

Ah, see, I didn't even think about that. There aren't any mirrors in the room. Duh!

Also, it's a cap sleeve keyhole back. No room for a bra to wiggle out.

Im very modest and think a spanx you can roll down would be how i would do it.

Most of the consultants I had got the dress ready to step into, stepped out of the room, and then stepped in when I had stepped into it and pulled it up over myself. Maybe an option depending on how your dress is.

Your consultant probably wouldn't be offended. I'm sure they have had many girls who have done just what you suggested. But you could also ask that she get the dress ready, have her step out and then once you put it on, she can step back in to finish zipping you up.

I'm probably not going to wear a bra either, or have cups sewn in. When my dress came in and I went to try it on, I put it on most of the way in the dressing room by myself, without the consultant. When I needed her help getting the back all hooked up, I just opened the door and asked, holding up the dress to keep the important things covered.

In my time working as a consultant, I had so many different brides with different levels of modesty requirements. Many people didn't care at all, so I saw more boobs in my time at the boutique than many people see in their entire lives. It really isn't a big deal! But that said, your consultant will understand if you want to step into it on your own (as long as it won't damage the dress). We were instructed to leave the dressing room and wait for the bride to indicate that she was ready. I personally am very modest and would need to stay 100% covered.

Your MOH may or may not be allowed to help you into the dress, depending on David's policy. If the bride owned the dress, we weren't allowed to help her into it (since if it was damaged while being put on, we could be blamed), but if we owned it, we were required to do the zipping. It sounds like you'll be the owner of the dress, so I'd think she could help you!

Worst case if it's looking uncomfortable, leave your bra on until the dress is almost all the way on.
