How much is too much on Facebook

So, mine and H's friend just had a homebirth and pictures have been slowly emerging on facebook from said birth.

There's a few nice ones, however, some of it is ridiculously graphic. Um, on my news feed, there's a picture of the placenta sitting in a bowl on the stove with the caption "Stovetop placenta!"

I feel like there's nothing personal anymore. Sigh. Where do you draw the line in what should be posted on facebook?

Re: How much is too much on Facebook

  • This is where I draw the line.  OMG, that sounds just horrible.  Why is there placenta on the stove?  Never mind, I don't want to know why.  Just disgusting.

There is a way to make pictures only available to certain people on fb.  People should exercise this tool more often.
  • There's an emoticon on the Bump where the little smiley is green and nauseous. I wish they had one of those here.
  • I draw the line at anything I wouldn't want my students to see in my classroom. Teachers lose their jobs over stuff that is completely legal (posting a picture of themselves with an alcoholic beverage in their hand, even though they are of legal drinking age.)
  • Ew, that's gross. I follow the grandma rule - if I'd be embarrassed to show my grandma, it doesn't go on my facebook. With many businesses today tracking activity on social networking sites, it's silly to put anything like a placenta or drunk photos out there. What if her potential employer saw that? Not to mention all the friends that offends. Yuck.

  • That is definitely too much IMO.  Body excrements/things that come out of the body (except babies when they're cleaned up) should not be in photos, let alone in photos that are put on the internet.

Some people have no shame anymore.
  • *Barf*  People have no boundaries.  Just because you CAN do something, like post all your business on the internet, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • Um, a placenta is WAAAY too much for Facebook.  Disgusting.
  • Also, why would you even TAKE a picture of a placenta on a stove?
  • No one believes in retaining a level of personal privacy anymore.  It's sad, really.

I don't put anything on facebook that I wouldn't be comfortable with my father seeing.  I think thats a pretty good rule.

"Whatever East. You're just mad I RSVP'd "lame" to your pre-wedding sleepover."
  • Shut the front door.  You have to send that to lamebook.com.  There was a home birth in a kiddie pool last week; it was disgusting.
  • If you question, even a little, if it's TMI, then it IS TMI.

Sadly, a lot of people don't seen to have that filter.

    That is just nasty.

  • Thats absolutely revolting. Your friend woul dbe getting an earful and then deleted, if they were on my list.
  • Anything more than "I am pregnant" or "Baby x was born today" is too much.
  • That is horrifying.

And for the record, I would never be able to eat at their house again for fear that some aspect of the meal was prepared in said placenta bowl.  Ridiculous, maybe... but true.
  • That is disgusting. And somewhat disturbing.

I'm not sure where I draw the line, though. I'm friends with my grandmother on FB, so I guess if I'd be uncomfortable with her seeing it, then I wouldn't put it. Though really, I'd be more concerned with my FMIL seeing something than my grandma.

But this girl obviously does not have that problem. If she's going to post it on Facebook, she'd probably be running around with pictures of it in her purse to show everyone she met, too.
  • Placentas and B-pics are a couple things that come to mind. Who needs a picture of the placenta? "look son, this is the the thing that helped sustain you for 9 months! Then we made a pasta dish with it."

  • That's gross!

And it needs to go public! Googlebomb anyone?

  • I think sharing pictures of a (cleaned up) newborn are fine. Placenta and blood, not so much.

  • You have no idea how much I want to submit to Lamebook and STFUparents. NO IDEA. H would probably get pretty ticked at me though.

This is not the first time this family has posted really over the top pictures on facebook.

[QUOTE]I just realized that I have no idea what a placenta looks like but I'm pretty sure its absolutely disgusting. Its bad enough with the FB pictures of "pregnant" or "yes" pregnancy tests. WTF is next? Used tampons?

Your quote made me curious and I google image searched "placenta."  It literally made me feel nauseous...there was one in a sandwich.
  • What is googlebomb?
  • A sandwich?!?  Please tell me it was a joke, or I may lose all faith in humanity.

Yeah, pretty much. I don't need 400 pics of your spawn, or updates about morning sickness everyday.

AC that made my stomach turn. Literally, I think.

It's when you fix a google search term to land on an unexpected result - like when George Bush used to be the #1 result for "miserable failure". I'm thinking stovetop placenta should be the top result for, say, thanksgiving stuffing.
