Attire for a Courthouse Wedding?

I know this is the third "Help dress me" thread in 24 hours but I just received a verbal invite to attend a JOP wedding of a friend. I have never been to one before and since there was no invitation to indicate formality I am at a loss for what to wear. The event from what I hear is going to have a pretty large turnout for this type of event. I have checked the radar and its going to be pretty cold that day. I trust you ladies will have brilliant ideas as always, thanks in advance!

I'm just a little bit north of you...I think I'd wear a dress and boots.

There was a charming spread in the last (Summer) MSWeddings that showed a courthouse wedding.  It was so sweet!  Have fun!

I'd wear a casual dress and some heels or boots.

My mom had a courthouse wedding the one time she got married. She picked out my dress and it was awful.

But that's besides the point. I would wear something along the lines of business casual. I would probably wear something along the lines of what I would wear to an office lunch for example (but our office lunches aren't overly casual, so a simple dress and shoes probably).

Thanks ladies, that will help me narrow down my selection a bit! I just had a big dillema with wearing blue jeans to a wedding.

Are they having a reception or just the ceremony? I would just dress for it the way I would dress for any other wedding. I don't think it matters where the ceremony takes place, I'd still wear a nice dress.

I went to a courthouse wedding a year or so ago. I wore a nice shirt with a vest and some capri slacks and heels. BF wore dress pants and a nice shirt, but no tie. There was no reception, we just went to Olive Garden afterwards (they didn't even sit next to each other... it didn't last long.. but that's a different story).

We were the only ones wearing anything remotely dressy. We were dressed up more than the couple getting married. But it felt right to me to dress up a little.

You should dress they way you would for any casual wedding.  This might help:

@Ana No they aren't having a reception or anything after.

@Goldie Thanks for the link, I forwarded it to a guy friend of mine that I'm going with.

<div>Yeah this is why I asked. Some people have a courthouse wedding because they want something quick, simple, and casual. But if the people were getting married at a courthouse because they didn't want to get married in a church and their venue didn't have a ceremony site, I think I'd still dress up and treat it with the same formality I would any other wedding.</div><div>
</div><div>ETA: Alright then I say go with PPs suggestions of a business casual type outfit. Whether that means pants or a dress is up to you obviously.</div>

No problem.  I think it's better to be slightly over dressed than under dressed.

One of my former coworkers had a courthouse wedding and people dressed up appropriately to go out to a nice dinner afterwards (which is what they did).

I didn't even know she got married until like a month later. She just dropped by work wearing a cute white party dress with her hair and makeup done. She made it sound like a fancy dinner!

It is supposed to be cold this week. We are hearing threats of snow for Saturday (it was 70 on Tuesday btw)

I wuld wear the same thing you would wear if you were going to court. Black pants and maybe a slightly dresser top than for court.

THIS.  I think that a simple dress or dress pants would be fine.
