Should we go to Germany for SIL's reception?

So, SIL got married last summer.  She and her husband live in Germany and they were going to have a reception for all of his German friends/family who couldn't come to America for the wedding.

I guess she's upset because a lot of people can't make it.  We want to go, but financially, it might not be the best time.  I mean, we won't go bankrupt or anything, but the timing isn't ideal.  Mr. Penny spoke to her today and she'd really like us to go...and Mr. Penny really wants to be there for his sister.

What should we do?

[QUOTE]Personally?  I wouldn't.  I'd consider traveling abroad for a wedding, but not for a reception that is intended for local friends and family.  I don't mean to sound harsh... but if a majority of the guests that the AHR was planned to accommodate are unable to attend, then it might be a sign that an AHR isn't necessary.

Yeah, if she wanted to "celebrate" with the German folk and they aren't into coming... well, that's why I think AHRs are super unnecessary. People who want to come to the wedding will try to make it and if they can't, they can't. Maybe they're trying to tell her something.

Edit: Yes, Germany is super awesome (I loved Berlin, like, a lot), but if she REALLY wants you there, she'll offer to help you finance it, like pay for half your tickets.

  • If you can afford to go, I would say you should- mostly because Germany is a great place to visit, in addition to supporting your H's sister. :)
