Will you be having a multi day ceremony or single day wedding? Belle Mer seems perfect for a elegant outdoor event. You also have this blank canvas to work with so you can definitely add your own unique twist.

What size wedding are you looking for? I think the max the Chandler can have is 100?
If you're looking for something larger then you can't go wrong with either Belle Mer or Castle Hill.
Since you're having a Hindu wedding, I don't know if you're looking for customization for food. If you are, I would give the edge to Belle Mer since you can custom create a menu.

What are you looking for from your venue? That way we can make better suggestions of any other places too.

I loved the chandler but they have really strict sound ordinances, so it was a deal breaker for me.

Im thinking of a one day indian wedding .... my wedding will be small maybe 100 .... small intimate outdoor elegant thats what im looking for ..... i would love my cermony outdoors and then my reception to be semi covered i would like to still see the ocean .... so im confused i was even thinking about having the cermony at the chanler and then the reception at belle mer, the chanler does have strick sound retrictions but belle mer seems a bit pricey unless i am wrong ..... any suggestions ladies

How much is it to host a ceremony at the Chanler? And have you compared quotes/rates between Oceancliff and Belle Mer? I think Belle Mer has a more modern feel and catering is more customizable. However both venues offer spectacular ocean front views. Keep in mind Belle Mer has certain minimums that need to be met depending on size and the time of day you decide to host your reception. I don't think you can go wrong with either venue. They are both top notch. It just depends on what you want and your budget.

Th ceremony rental at the Chaler is $750 .... which i though was a great deal, i do think belle mer is mondern but i do not know if it is cost efficent for only 100 guests .... their quotas seem to be high .... but their views are wondeful and mondern .... but their music must be off at 6pm where as i believe belle mer is 12am both have their advantages and disadvantages.... some help

See I actually disagree with this statement about Belle Mer 100%.  BM is very cost effective for a smaller group because you can still have the venue you love but apply the minimum towards things other than food/beverage. We could never have had a wedding at Oceancliff because the food/beverage minimum for an evening wedding was $40K.  That is $400/person in food and beverage if you have 100 people.  Our minimum at BM is $30K but we get to apply that to food, beverage, band, linens, etc.  I love the concept for a smaller wedding.

Yeah if you want outside catering that would be a problem at Belle Mer.

Have you talked to them to see if their chef can prepare any of the food you are looking for.  We asked them to create an hors d'eouvres for us because it is something that my fiance's (Russian Jewish) family would be really excited about.  She nailed it!

That was my BIGGEST issue when looking for a venue. It was really hard to find a venue that allowed outside catering. Have you considered Blithewold Mansion and Garden in Bristol? It does not have the ocean view but you still get a very scenic backdrop and outdoor tented wedding. Another venue in Bristol is Mount Hope Farm, that has some beautiful ocean views and Bristol is fairly close to Newport, R.I

btw Belle Mer really can't create authentic Asian (Thai/Viet) cuisine never mind Indian cuisine. I have been there and done that.  Great presentation but lacking in flavor/taste. It isn't their fault though because besides the ingredients they need the right tools and techniques.

Well let me know if you need Indian vendors, I know a few that specialize from interfaith wedding coordinators to mandaps.

I believe belle mer does allow for outside catering for special religious reasons, like indian or kosher weddings, they are super flexible about those needs!
  • edited December 2011
nope i wish that were true but i asked and unforunately thats not the case ..... because my vision is to have a intimate indian wedding

Not to make it too popular, but Blithewold DOES have ocean view... it's spectacular, as it's right at the edge of Bristol Harbor so you get all the sailboats coming and going in the summer and early fall.  Spectacular!  Gorgeous gardens, too, for beautiful photographs.  I'm hoping my sweetheart loves it as much as I do, because I've already got my heart set on Blithewold!

I just looked into the Chanler and the site fee was over $10,000 for the cermony and reception and then there was also a food minimum. I am also planning on having 120 people or less at my wedding and they suggested an afternoon wedding, which I am not into. The sound ordinances was also a deal breaker for me as well.

My fiance and I were stuck between those two as well and we're also looking at ~100 guests!  We're leaning towards Chanler because it has a better view and given that the food will be made by their restaraunt (Spiced Pear) I know that my guests will be happy (also, I'm sure you could work directly with the chef if you want adjustments).  Also, another thing we took into account was that at Belle Mer often has two weddings that take place at the same time.  Although they promise we'll never see the other wedding party/guest, I'm doubtful.  Let me know if you need any more help, my fiance and I researched both places extensively!
