Books and crystal punch glasses

Hi ladies! It has been a little while. I hope everyone had great holidays!

I have decided to do some of my centerpieces with books. I got a ton for free and can get more in different sizes at the local Goodwill for 14 cents.

At first I was planning on covering them with fabric or paper in our colors. Some people suggested I just leave the books as they are and use them that way, however, the books are just random ones.

I thought of painting them and then using sandpaper or steel wool to make it look more distressed.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Also, at the Goodwill, I found small, crystal punch glasses that are beautiful! I plan on putting tea lights in them and placing them around or on the book arrangements. I am very pumped! Maybe I'll throw a few wild flowers in there somewhere as well.

I wrapped my piles of books in inexpenvie wide crochet looking ribbon. I just got it at JoAnn's on deep discount. Then over that I wrapped a twine bow. It was wide enough it covered the titles and looked a little rustic as well.

I don't have too many suggestions, but I'm super interested in seeing how this all turns out. I was originally considering doing a book theme (cause FI and I had our first date at a bookstore), but I just couldn't figure out what to do. Also, FI looked at me like I'd lost my mind when I mentioned it. So that gave it the kibosch! Anyway, good luck. But my suggestion, if they are just random books and not old leather ones or decorative, I'd definitely do something to the covers.

Yeah, Fi looked at me like I was crazy at first too. Then I told him that most of the books were free (my aunt works in a library and gives me the ones they don't want anymore + 14 cents if I need more from the goodwill) and only 25 cents per punch glass. Then when I showed him how much flower centerpieces would be, he suddenly loved my book idea!

I'll post a picture when I get a centerpiece done.

She didn't cover the books for her centerpieces, and I think it looked really nice.

I'm thinking of doing books as escort cards and covering them in fabric in my wedding colors. Can I ask which Goodwill you're at that sells books for 14 cents? The one around me sells each for a dollar, which can get expensive if you have to buy a lot.

Krisnd08: It's a certain bin in the Goodwill stores and since I'm covering them, then I don't really care what book they are.I use the Woodbury store and the Hastings one so far. Both have the 14 cent bin.

Also, I can't recall if the books have stickers on them or not, but check the calendar at your local store. On Sundays and Mondays they have a certain color sticker half off. I'm not positive whether it pertains to books or not, but it's worth looking into! Good luck!
