SMALL WEDDING WITHOUT MAID OF HONOR OR BRIDESMAID?

Hi, my fiance and I are having a very small, intimate, formal wedding, and family only. Beach ceremony and formal dinner indoors. We are going for quality not quantity and not going crazy. We have 20 people. I have chosen 2 flower girls and 1 ring bearer. Groom will be walking with his Mother and of course Bride (me) with father. Well, we're having quite a hard time choosing a best man and maid of honor and have started the planning for the wedding and have ordered my dress already. So it's not like if I do ask a close family member to be my maid of honor will they have the typical responsibilities. So is it okay not to have one??? Or can I finalize my decision and ask that person 2 months before to be in my wedding?

Re: SMALL WEDDING WITHOUT MAID OF HONOR OR BRIDESMAID?

  • A wedding party is never required.

As for asking people to do things ... it depends on what "responsibilities" you are talking about.

Throwing a shower/bachelorette party, assigning tasks or planning chores, donig any kind of work ... no, it's never O.K. to assign jobs to people. Whether they are the Maid of Honor, regular Bridesmaid or a guest. If you want help, by all means ASK for it, but don't assign jobs. And it is NEVER O.K. to ask or assign someone for a shower or bachelorette.

Signing the license, holding the bouquet/ring, coming forward to straighten out your train during the ceremony, maybe giving a toast ... yes, it's fine to ask someone if they can help you out with these things, because they are quick and don't require work.

  • You don't need to have any attendants at all.  This is fine.

  • You don't need one. And with a wedding that small, it will look weird to have half the people standing up front anyway.
