Plus Size on a tiny girl budget

Becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of reasonably priced dresses for plus size girls. I know Davids etc has them but no luck with my size there. I just want a simple informal dress with a short sleeve in it. And I think I may just have to resort to wearing a stupid sundress. All the dresses I've found that are simple and would fit me, I can't afford. we have a very limited budget. I can't even find a decent just special occassion dress anywhere. I'm almost to the point where I don't even want to have a wedding anymore and just go to the JP. Shouldn't every bride get to feel special on their day?

Re: Plus Size on a tiny girl budget

  • There are lots of plus-size dresses available at preownedweddingdresses.com and on ebay. Some are store samples that have never been worn.

I'm a size 2 in street clothes and also want sleeves. The only budget advantage I have in my search is a wider selection because it's easier to take things in than take them out.

Take a look at Alfred Angelo if you havn't already. They don't have any sleeved options (other than 1193), but they do have a shrug to go to go with most dresses and many have straps of some sort. They don't cost any more than the regular dresses. I'm buying my dress from them and have been quite impressed thusfar (I have a really tight budget too). I wish you the best of luck! Keep shopping around until you find a shop/company that isn't trying to rip you off.

I've experienced this with bridesmaid dresses as well as my own dress. The issue is the extra material it takes to make a plus size gown. The PPs have some great suggestions though and you should definitely check out ebay, etc. You could even try getting a bridesmaid dress in an ivory or light color. I've seen brides do that as well and it's very affordable that way.
  • My budget is very limited. Like under $200. I have been looking for just a simple special occassion dress. But everything I found on EBay, or the pre-owned sites was VERY limited in my size and out of my budget or just wasn't suitable. Not trying to be extremely picky, just wish I could find something affordable. found several on the Bonny Bridals site I love, and come in my size, just out of price range.

Thanks for the help and encouragement!

Ladies I can't think you enough for your kind words. I guess my frustrations with our budget were getting the best of me.
My fiance had a little accident Sunday and had to make a trip to the emergency room for staples in his head. Long story short... copay's suck! LOL But I told him that it seems these things only happen when we have a little money put back because someone is watching over us.

Low and behold I had my little vent the other day about finding a dress and costs, today I got a coupon for the website that the only dress I've really been considering! 50% off one item!!!! And that equals what we had to pay at the emergency room the other day! Thank you Lord!

  • Someone else had this dress posted the other day.  It is pretty and simple (but lots of detail at the waist).  Can be dressed up with accessories, and free shipping.  I think you can also return it at the store if you don't like it.  Price is extremely reasonable.    http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/eliza-j-plus-size-dress-strapless-beaded-sweetheart-neck-a-line-bridal-gown?ID=615212&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results
