need advice to budget a wedding!

i need advice on how to budget a wedding. my parents are chipping in a little but me and my fiance are starting to save. we planned on having our wedding 2014 so we can save more. we live in northern nj. is there sites and other stuff that give good deals to save money but still have a great perfect wedding? help please!

Re: need advice to budget a wedding!

  • It all depends on how many people you are going to invite, which time of year you want to get married and which day.  If you get married in the off season (approximately November to early April) prices will be cheaper.  Friday nights or Sundays will be cheaper.  A Saturday afternoon will also lower the price.

</div><div>we are probably going to have it in september and we have a big family and such so i think like 175 people will be invited. i want to find sites or places to make things by my own so its cheaper that way too. do you know any? and i think we will be doing it friday night. i wanted to do a thursday night because its cheaper but not alot of people can take off on a thursday and plus stay out late and go back to work friday. my father doesnt want to do that... i want to see  if the venue we absoutley love will give us a deal. my theme is butterflies because ive loved them since i was a kid and i think that would be so pretty around that time and my colors i want are purple yellow maybe ivory or silver. but i defintily want to try to do cheap but perfect! weddings can be stressful :(</div>
  • Check the DIY board on here. Those ladies are talented and can school you on a lot of stuff to make yourself. Youtube is also your friend. Weddings can be stressful but you've got a lot of time so take it slow and don't overwhelm yourself. GL

  • My best advice is once you book your venue, get all the other big items booked in advance as well (photographer, florist, transportation).  This not only guarentees your first choie of your top vendors, but also locks in 2012 pricing.  We had a 20 month engagement, and I booked just about all of my vandors upfront (including hair & makeup, which many people don't do until later).  Every single one of my vendors had gone up in price by the time of our wedding, so I'm glad we booked with them when we did.  Most only require a desposit, so you have time to save up for the balance.
