I think thats just grasping at straws to prove your point that they are vague and make sweeping guesses. Not EVERYONE has experienced the same things, you cant know how they come to the conclusion they do.
  • I could just as easily say the same goes for your argument.  If you really want to you can make anything fit what a psychic tells you.  I've seen people do it.

    Psychics play the odds.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I agree, B. I also HATED John Edwards (TV psychic, not senator) He was ridiculous about vague predictions.

  • Okay, so three years ago I went to one of those Renaissance Fairs and talked to a psychic for fun.  She told me that I had unresolved issues with an ex and until that was resolved I could not really move forward with any relationship successfully.  I really left feeling like she was full of crap because I didn't have any unresolved issues.  One year later the ex I have described as the worst boyfriend EVER started contacting me and begging me to talk to him after not seeing him for 5 years.  Here we are 2 years later and 58 days away from our wedding.  I don't know but in some cases I have to believe!

I think we will have to just agree to disagree. I think it just comes down to belief. I listen to my psychic regularly and she gets quite a lot of specific things correct. I think it really just depends on the situation.
  • A good friend really wanted to go and see one, and we heard of this woman that was "always right, never wrong", so I agreed to go.

She told me that I would get married in 2007 and have three male children by the time I was 30.

I'm getting married in 2011 and I'll be 30 a few weeks after the wedding, no kids yet.

SO I say boooooo to psychics

  • I've read that most police stations and detectives either have a psychic on board or they go to a specific one for tips/clues on missing persons or help with homicide suspects. I think that noone will be 100% accurate. And if someone goes and hears something sad/bad about their future, it will screw with their head and might even change their plans they had, amazing how psychics can mess with someone's mental state !

My coworker used to work for miss cleo in california many moons ago. she said they hired her at 18 yrs old, unexperienced, gave her a book on tarot cards and gave her a  phone, she would be inundated with calls (not everyone got connected to miss cleo) and most would ask if they were being cheated on, she was told to try and keep them on phone as long as possible of course. She said she tried learning to read the tarots and often GUESSED correctly so people thought she was real good....Sadness !

Then in 2002, Federal Trade Commission filed complaints against Miss Cleo for misrepresenting the cost of calls to their clients. Turns out, miss cleo wasn't born in jamaica, wasn't a shaman priestess, she was last seen doing car dealership advertisements.

THIS IS SHOCKING! I'm now going to question my whole belief system.
  • I believe in psychics but I also know that for every psychic there are 5 con artists. My great aunt is a highly regarded psychic in my area and she's a wonderful person who just does it because she was born with the ability to do so. She always says there is no 100% accuracy with any predictions because ultimately we are in charge of our own destiny. But she says people with the "sixth sense" are able to be a tool to help guide others.
I can understand why people would be skeptical though.

See, I feel like any psychologist could have talked to you for 5 minutes and told you the same thing.
  • I'm not sure I necessarily believe in them, but my mom did have some very specific details come true that were told to her by a psychic about 27-30 years ago.

She went with a coworker to a psychic in downtown Dallas that didn't advertise but only took clients based on word of mouth.  The coworker was single at the time and was wondering when she would get married, and the usual details about kids and stuff.  The psychic told her that the man she would would marry would save her life.  They kind of laughed because it sounded cheesy.  Well, a few years later the coworker was diagnosed with liver cancer and ended up dating and later marrying one of her doctor's that treated her cancer.

My mom went with the coworker just out of fun and really didn't plan on getting a reading, but the psychic wanted to do it.  She told my mom that she would receive a lot of money from the death of a child.  I believe at the time, I wasn't born yet, and again, my mom kind of laughed it off because it just sounded really random.
Well, a few years ago my step-brother passed away.  He had a large trust fund in his name from a lawsuit settlement when he was a child, and at the time of his death, the money was transferred to my mom and step-dad.  So I guess, in a round-about way, the prediction came true.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: What do we think of psychics? : This is a perfect example of the vague things they say.  Who hasn't experienced some sort of loss from some sort of accident?

She actually went into pretty specific detail which was what made it a little eerie, but it was about 2 years ago and I really can't remember what exactly was said. I take it all with a grain of salt anyway, because I do think a lot of it is just chance.

Clearly I believe in them ;)

But I can see the apprehension to them.  There will always be people out there looking to scam others for a quick buck.

Also psychics read energy from people who go into things with open hearts and open minds.  If you go into a reading already closed off, I doubt you are going to get a good reading.  This happened to my mom.  She is very skeptical.  The guy told her he as not able to read her energy, gave her money back, and offered to read her in the future for free if she ever wanted to try again.

FWIW: All of the psychics I have been to do not charge outrageous prices and some dont even have shops.  I have found them by word of mouth.  They also do alot of police work (for free) and grief counseling for people.
