bridesmaid dress question

Hi everyone!  Has anyone used pewter or dark gray for one of their colors?  My vision was to have dark gray dresses and orange flowers, but I'm having a heck of a time finding dark gray dresses!   I've looked at j crew, ann taylor, even Davids bridal has only a limited selection!  Are there any places that maybe i should check out?  Which brings me to another point...is it a total faux pas to have the same bridesmaid dresses as a friend of mine who's getting married a month before me?  If it is I'm not even going to bring it up with her...  Thanks for your help!

I don't know about the grey dresses, but using your friend's bridesmaid dresses may be a bad idea. In all honesty, if it is a basic bridesmaid dress and they'll be in different colors, most guests wouldn't even notice. However, a lot of bride's can get kind of touchy about other brides they know using their ideas/styles/etc. I guess you'll have to judge how your friend would react to you bringing this up to her. But at the same time, there are tons of adorable, affordable bridesmaids dresses, why go with the same ones and risk upsetting her?

I think that would be an awesome color combo if you could find it! Check Mestad's in Rochester. On their website, they have links to the lines they carry. You can then look through their collections and see their colors and styles.
There are sooooooooooooooooooooo many different bridesmaid dresses out there that there should be no need for you to have the same dress. If you like the style, perhaps you can find one similar, but still not the exact same. If I were your friend, I might be a little annoyed by it, based on the amount of options out there.

Jim Hjelm has that color: http://www.jlmcouture.com/Jim-Hjelm-Occasions

    also the Wedding Shoppe (weddingshoppeinc.com)

Are you having the exact dress as her? My friend is also getting married three weeks before me. Our dresses are both strapless and similar but I would never get the same exact one!

    Hope that helps!

i'm currently on the prowl for dark gray bridesmaid's dresses myself. I bought my gown at Davids and would have gladly gotten the BM dress there b/c they are so cheap, but their selection in gray blows. hard.
So far I have found a few brands that have some dresses in a darker grayish hue- Priscilla of Boston, Vineyard, Amsale, Jenny Yoo, After Six, Melissa Sweet & Simple Silhouettes. We are hitting up Flutter and Priscilla of Boston this weekend to take a look at some.
    good luck!

    PS- i wouldn't copy your friend's BM dress :)

We had dark grey dresses for my sisters wedding.  They were Bill Levkov with euro grey and euro silver. Here is his link to the dress

His website is nice because you can change the colors on the dresses to see what they will look like.  One thing to remember is that if you go with a designer and order the dresses, you have a much wider choice of colors.  He also offers many different dresses in the euro grey which is pretty dark.  Have fun choosing one.

Thanks everyone for the help!  I know it's not a great idea to use the same dress as my friend, and you guys just affirmed what I already felt...

    :) I'm doing pewter/stone with orange, too!

So far I've seen, in person, the Jim Hjelm Occasions gray (I forget what the color is called), and the Bill Levkoff "Euro Gray". They're both very similar and really beautiful. Also, I don't know if they have LJM (La Joli Mode) in MN, but they've got some beautiful dark grays, too. I had my sister (MOH) try on a bunch and the orange/pewter combo is beautiful.

Good luck! Maybe we'll end up with the same thing. :) Only I wouldn't be upset about it.

Try Flutter Boutique and Priscilla of Boston.

If I could redo my colors, I would LOVE to do grey and canary yellow. Can't wait to see what you come up with! :)
