Bora Bora or Moorea and where to stay

We have booked a cruise in tahiti for our honeymoon and I am so ridicoulously excited!  We want to stay a few days more in one of those over water bungalos.   I'm trying to decide between bora bora and moorea and where to stay in either place.  The cruise will visit both islands.
Please help!!

Re: Bora Bora or Moorea and where to stay

  • I've heard Moorea is (relatively) less expensive than Bora Bora, so if cost is a factor at all, Moorea might be the better choice.

  • The pp is right- if cost is a deciding factor, Moorea will be less expensive. What resort to choose will be based on what you are looking for. In Moorea, if you want a good beach, stay at the Sofitel. If you want excellent snorkeling, try the Hilton Moorea. If you want something smaller or close to a village, check out the Pearl. Same goes with BB- if you want a great beach, check out Le Meridien or the Thalasso. If you want an awesome view of the main island, check out the Pearl, Le Meridien, the Thalasso, St. Regis, or Four Seasons. If price is no object and you just want fabu service, check out the Four Seasons. The Nui is great because it has a million colors of the lagoon and has deep water from their horizon OWBs. If you want something small and intimate, check out the Sofitel Private Island. Best value? Check out Le Mai Tai (partially AI) or the Sofitel Bora Bora Beach Resort. Snorkeling? Sofitel Private Island or the Nui. Access from the main island without being on a motu? Le Moana or Le Mai Tai. So many choices! :)

  • We are also going on a cruise out of Tahiti for our HM.  So excited!

I've always wanted to stay in an overwater bungaloo, but I'm not sure we'll be able to swing it this time...

What cruise are you going on?

    Anniversary
  • Out of curiosity, what islands does the cruise visit? You may want to consider visiting an island the cruise doesn't stop at. Tikehau is a gorgeous atoll, but very quiet. Rangiroa has a few activities and great snorkeling and the Kia Ora was just renovated! I have been to both places and really enjoyed my time there.

  • Thanks for all the info.
I think we are going to stay in Moorea.  This trip is so expensive and bora, although a must will be more expensive.  Our cruise line will go there as well.  Any thoughts on the Intercontinental in Moorea?  Thats where my travel agent, who is my aunt wants to send us.

careydes:  We are going on Paul Gaugin on August 11th.  which will you be on?
  • We're staying in an overwater bungalow at the Four Seasons Bora Bora. It isn't cheap, but it is freaking fabulous!
