How can i use my own songs if i hire a DJ?? :(

I am a little worried, because i have random songs that i KNOW a DJ would not have. There are a lot of unsigned artists and off the wall tunes. Is there any way i can use my own unique stuff instead of the same ol' Brad Paisley and Bon Jovi songs?

Thanks,
<3

  • You can do an ipod reception if you'd rather.

  • Ask your DJ if you can give him a few mix CDs that you make.  I'm doing the same thing.  I'm trying to limit myself on the # of songs I select that most of my guests will not know.  Our friends will know them, but I want to make sure there's plenty of music for the other guests (family) to dance to as well, and I think people tend to dance to songs they know.  I'm also incorporating a lot of the more unique songs into the dinner music, so we get to hear them, but no one is pressured to dance to them.
  • You can get with your dj and let him know what songs you would like played, and for an extra fee, they will usually get any song you want.

  • I asked my DJ if he could play a particular song if I gave him the CD, and he said he could play any recorded music I want.

  • You would just need to be sure you hire a DJ who will play your songs.  We made a CD for our DJ and told him to play all the songs on it, and he did.    Most DJs will play whatever you want.  If they don't have it, they'll either get it or you can give it to them.

  • Our DJ said he could find any song we want or we could give him a cd we want him to play. No extra fee

  • Probably.  Just add that to the list of questions you ask a DJ when booking.
  • Talk to your DJ and see what the procedure is for this.

We wanted a song for our first dance that we could only find on YouTube. The DJ managed to get us an MP3 file of the song (no extra fee). So a good DJ can probably find you anything you want, or you can just give him a CD beforehand so he has those songs.

  • I was a wedding DJ (still do the ocassional wedding for friends) and let me tell you any good DJ will play exactly what you want to hear.

If you have the music on CD be sure to give the DJ a list of the song's on the disk. Include artist name and song title.   That way they can keep track of what music is appropriate for each moment.

If you don't just give them a list of what you want and I'm sure they'll be happy to get it for you.

Every wedding I DJ'ed gave me more music for my collection.
  • You can easily just give him copies of your cds to play at the wedding or make mp3s of them for him.  Any good DJ will be able to do this.  I'm sure it will be fine.  Don't do an ipod reception.
