We're getting married next year and are looking for a great, reliable DJ who will listen to a do not play list and not play ridiculous music or look ridiculous. I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews.
Just had my wedding and used popshop - they have their own do-not plays for cheesiness, so they are very much into listening to want you want. Not one song of my don't play list made it and nothing that was played was remotely close. We had a diverse group and we got great compliments on the music selection. I picked some but basically gave her an idea of guests and flow of the evening and trusted her and her skills (DJ Colleen) and she did not disappoint.
Have to be honest and respond to the 'Dash of Class' rec. Went to a wedding recently where Dash of Class was the DJ and it was the cheesiest 'disco inferno' wedding music I've ever experience... have to give them a big thumbs down.
I've been speaking on the phone with Jon Sinclair of Aria Melody (meeting with Starry Night too). He's in Hoboken and has been really cool & down to earth. Not sales-y at all and seems to be right in tune with my musical taste. We don't want lights or corniness or talking on the microphone.
