Many of our guests have enquired
For a gift idea to be inspired
We have enough dishes and towels for two
So we have a favour to ask of you.
A wishing well we thought would be great
(But only if you wish to participate)
A gift of money, an amount you can afford
Would be really appreciated, you can be assured
At our reception, drop your gift in the well
Then make a wish, but shhh… don’t tell!
We hope our request is okay
For this would help make our day
Then when we choose something new
We can say it was all thanks to you
And in return for your kindness, we are sure,
That you will get what you wished for.

yes
It's not ok to mention gifts on the wedding invitations, especially ones that dictate what the gift should be. A cutesy poem doesn't make it ok.
You can use word of mouth, though. Your parents can sorta "hint" that you're set on homegoods for now.
And although you have every thing you need, is there nothing you could upgrade? Because not every one likes to give cash gifts. But you don't have to register for anything, that's just a random suggestion from me. :)
Anyway, I would leave out the poem and not mention gifts.

Never put anything about gifts in an invitation.
Never ask guest for money.

If you have to ask, the answer is probably yes.

If I received this from the B&G on anything - not even the invitation - I would feel that the entire focus and purpose of the reception was now on getting cash.
Don't do it. Please.

[QUOTE]LOL...okay ladies...thanks for the input.

Now that is a breath of fresh air. Stick around!
What is it that makes people think rhyming words somehow distract from what the words are saying? Would typing "We want money." on an invite be tacky? Then so is the cute little poem saying the exact same thing. The need to make poems for everything wedding related is something that has baffled me for years. The poems on bathroom baskets or buckets of free flip-flops kill me. A lot of people must think poetry is SOOOOOO classy and sophisticated.

[QUOTE]Man, I WISH someone would do this for a wedding that I'm invited too. Then we would have something to mock them for for the rest of their lives.

I've never even seen registry info on an invitation. If I got one of this I'm not sure if I'd gasp or cry or laugh really, really hard.

[QUOTE]I don't know what planet people are from where this would be okay. Plus, several grammar and spelling mistakes are in the poem.

Of course the grammer is going to be off, it's a poem, lol. I'm not seeing any spelling errors, though. :/
Anyway, she really nice about the replies, which is really refreshing. Someone in her life probably told her this was okay and she believed them. Now she knows better. :)
now they are getting a toaster!
Bar one (and only family who we influenced through our discussions on not feeling right doing this!), every wedding invitation I've received has had one of these enclosed. It's very common here.
