London to DR...planner needed?!?

We've decided to do the do in DR but we live in London, UK. All the resorts offer wedding planners but I'm wondering do I or should I get a planner in the UK to help filter all the info through. And if so, do I then need to encur the cost of them (maybe) having to go to the DR too? 

Or can I trust the people at the resort to do all the things we'll be asking of them without being able to double check? HELP

    You should always double check to be happy with your decosion/answer. You don't necessarily have to get a Planner in London but it would benefit you to maybe work with a TA. I'm working with Diane from destinationweddings.com and she's been awesome to work with. Other girls have been working with Beach Bum Vacations and they have had good experiences as well. You might even decided on someone from London that you can trust but in my opinion having a TA was very beneficial. The planners in the resort do a good job and I don't think is necessary to have two. The one in the resort will tell you and help you in anything you need. Did you decide on a resort yet? I'm a PC, DR bride. We're getting marry at Dreams Resort & Spa Puntaa Cana :) Happy planning!

    I definitley don't think there's a need for two wedding planners.. the one at the resort should be sufficient. As Pam said, many girls here used a TA. I didn't, but if I could go back I probably would.

    Definitely get a hold of a Travel Agent. See which vacation/tour operators have offices in London and speak with them directly. It's best to stay close to the company so that you don't get conflicting information. For example, I'm booking with Beaches, and I'll be dealing with their office here in Toronto. Another option would be to call the resort customer information line (or email them) and ask them if they have any representatives in your area. 

    With DW, in a way you're the planner. Trust that the resort planner knows what they are doing... they do it all the time! You just have to decide what you want and how you want it. Some places won't give detailed price lists or brochures for their weddings until you book, but it doesn't hurt to ask so that you can do your homework and narrow down your options.

    Thank you all so much!! Hadn't thought about looking for a TA but now will add that to mu list. Especially since we'll be having people traveling from Scotland, London and New York City. 

    I've some meeting set up with planners, two of which told me they'd most likely be helping me with all the arrangements that could be done - at home. The location would be another on its own - so at least they're being truthful.

    I'm considering Dreams, Puntacana resort and Paradisus. 

    How has your planning been so far? Are you making any big changes to the packages offered? And why'd you choose Dreams? 

    Just wondering is all...
