registry

A couple of family members have asked me what I want as a wedding gift. I don't have a clue because I've lived on my own for a while and i have everything. In the beginning, I wasn't going to have a registry but now i'm thinking should have at least one. I don't know to go. Any ideas? I suck at the little details.

Re: registry

  • We registered at Target, JCP &when finishing up at BBB. FI and I have a lot but we definitely need some upgrades because most of the things we have are from my apartment in college (I.e. bedding, towels, blender, a crappy vacuum). We are doing 3 places because there are some things we want that are at the different places...just do a small one and if you don't do it ppl will give you cash, giftcards or something they pick out.
  • We registered at Macy's, Target and BB&B. We also have pretty much everything we need but could use upgrades on and other things you always can use extra of like towels, mixing bowls, bed linen etc. I would start with a small one if you don't really know what you would like and you cam always add on from there.

  • We also have pretty much everything we need but we registered at BB&B and myregistry.com. I think we have a lot on BB&B- mostly upgrades and it's always fun to get new stuff!

My BIL is pushing us to get a 3rd registry or we'll get "crappy gifts like these salt/pepper shakes!" he was talking about weird looking shakes that MIL has. I don't think we're going to do a 3rd one, but I'm a bit afraid of the weird gifts. But hey, they're gifts, right?

  • We have a lot too but we are upgrading everything!!  Here is my wedding website you can access our registries here if you want to get some ideas.  We registered for all new stuff including a very nice bed set :)

Is someone throwing a shower for you?  If so you need to make at least a small registry.

  • I would still do a registry because otherwise people will still probably buy you gifts...just ones you don't want.

If you really want cash or gift cards so you can save up for something big; you can always just let your parents know to 'pass the word along' that that is what you want.

But it's still a good idea to register for some things for those who prefer to buy gifts.

  • I was quite anti-registering (think the whole concept is as presumptuous as putting it on the invites personally), but I will end up doing sheets and towels and a duvet most likely because that is what the masses say to do. .
  • TK is eating posts again!

I registered for a lot of things but have passed the word that we rather have gift cards or cash.  I was worried if we didn't register for a lot that we'd get some really random crap from people that we'd have to deal with returning.
