Wedding Woes

Crazy grandma: the saga continues (long but worth it)

Backstory: grandpa died in February from the kind of brain cancer Ted Kennedy had.  Grandma, who was in the same nursing home as he was for a broken arm, refused to see him until my dad & Uncle R forcably wheeled her down the hallway one day; he died that night.  We tried to get her to go into assisted living once she was healed from the arm as the house is a split level ranch.  Split level ranch + 82 year old with walker = epic fail.

Other Uncle, henceforth known as Uncle D, talks grandma into giving him $$$ (unsure of exact amt; somewhere in the $10k range) for a new motorcycle.  He already has 2, btw.  Uncle D is basically a man child who lives with his ex-wife & works very sporatically.  Grandma has very severe mental health issues & I wonder if she was on too much Xanax to know WTF she was doing & if Uncle D took advantage of that situation.  My dad & Uncle R find out about this & ripped him a new one; he said he'd pay her back.

Fastforward to this past weekend.  My mom is a real estate agent.  They use a computer program for possible new referrals; he office is part of a national chain  & they get inquiries from around the state & country.  She gets one that is very familiar.  It's my grandma's house.

Mom calls dad & asks when grandma finally saw the light & decided to move into assisted living.  Dad said "I don't know WTF you're talking about."  Dad calls grandma & is told "I'm selling the house because Uncle D is buying a duplex & he'll live in one side & I'll live in another."  Except she can't sell the house because my grandpa was a smart man & put all of his sons on the deed so not just 1 can make such decisions.  Even with brain cancer, he probably knew that Uncle D would try something fishy.

Apparently Uncle D & his ex-wife that he's lived with are breaking up because she's suddenly discovered Jesus & he hasn't.  Uncle D has already put in an offer on a duplex along with grandma.  Can someone who's 82 years old qualify for a 30 year mortgage?  Honest to God!

Oh, and he hasn't paid back the money from the motorcycle either.

That's what I told my dad to do.  But speaking from experience as someone who works in mental health, it's easier said than done.  She doesn't have dementia or anything; she's just nuts & has poor judgement.

yeah...as someone who has had her own grandmother declared incompetent (she had dementia and no one was arguing it)--it's hard.
And as someone who has failed to have crazy g-ma-IL declared incompetent 3x...it sucks.

But starting a papertrail now = valuable.

And I"m sorry you have twitty family members who need a shoe in their ass.
