First dance "surprises" w/ song mash up

I know this sounds bitchy, but I just have to vent somewhere! I've been looking up first dance ideas, and while I realize everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what they believe will make their dream/fantasy wedding come true, I just think a surprise first dance where it starts with a slow song and then a bunch of silly, fast songs play one after the other and the couple has choreographed moves to them is just cheesy, trashy and not classy!!

This isn't Glee, you're not in high school. You're adults, your friends and family didn't come to see you dance bad choreographed moves for one line from 10 different songs in a long mash up... it's not a comedy routine, you're not there to make people laugh or entertain them. It's a celebration of a new life together and the love you share.

And while I'm all up for having fun and dancing your heart out, I think that should be left to the dance floor AFTER the important heartfelt dances like the first dance, father/daughter, mother/son.

Just my opinion of course... I know other people have different opinions and doing silly dances just fits them better... just had to vent!!

    Imagine that.

I wonder how you feel about people who skip all those "heartfelt dances".

Mmmkay. Those are usually the dances that I pay attention to. My cousin and her dad did this and it was the only 'first dance' I've ever watched from beginning to end.

Also, you shouldn't use your email address as your username. Someone may sign you up for cheesy, trashy and not classy porn sites.

I actually agree with you about the dances being cheesy, but the fact that you got yourself all worked up over them makes you kind of a douche.

  • Options
    I don't get it.

You hate these kinds of dances SO much that it compelled you to write this post. How do these dances affect you? Usually random wanna-be-sharky posts on here by newbs are at least about topics that affect their 'It's MY day' wedding. This just seems random.

Stop watching youtube videos and your problems should be solved.

I like how long this post is, in comparison with your other two posts, which are 1 line responses.  Odd.  Apparently 1st dances really get under your skin.

Oh come on guys, we all hate stuff so much we vent about them online.

    I too hate mash ups.
  • Options
I agree they can be cheesey, but they sure are more fun to watch than slow dancing.
Our first dance will be a fun song.  Not choreographed, just having fun with it.  That will feel more "heartfelt" to me.  Oh, and I consider myself and my FI adults.

Surprisingly enough, they also didn't come to see you do the hug and sway to a cheesy love song either.

I hope you have an open bar and good food, because we all know that's what they're really there for.

<div>Our entry song was 'Can't Handle This', not quite as popular but still fairly 2010 trendy. Which is fine, since we got married in 2010. I am sure my kids will think we are dorks. </div>

We didnt do "songs", it was bad enough having to have a first dance.

I banned all BEP from my wedding.  BP walked in to White Stripes, we walked in to Dropkick Murphys.

Of course, I don't know that I'd follow any of my advice about my wedding, seeing how it ended up :)

My entrance song was stupid Monday Night Football.  It was supposed to be that for 20 seconds, then us being announced, and then coming in to "Just the Way you Are" by Bruno Mars, but H kept getting in the DJ's ear like "DONT FORGET THE MNF THEME!!!" so the DJ forgot the other part.

Yeah, im the girl who got introduced to MNF.

Everybody cracked up when we got to the line "I'll buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair" in our first dance. Does this mean I have to have a do-over?
