Divorced Parents Invite Wording

For our invitation, my parents, who are hosting, will be listed as Jane and John Smith my mother wanted her name on the invite instead of using Mr. and Mrs. John Smith.

We are doing a "son of" line for FI's parents, who are divorced, and not remarried. Etiquette wise, and to stay consistent with the wording at the top, I think it should read "son of Jane Doe and John Doe". Is this correct?

I asked FMIL what she was comfortable with and she thought it should be the same as my parents, but I let her know that I thought it indicated that they were married, which I know she wouldn't want. She said that she doesn't have a preference either way.

I know it is a small detail, but I just wanted to see if anyone had input from their invites before I send in the wording.

Thanks!

  • I think what you have makes sense.  If FI's mom still has the same last name thats really all you can do right?  Plus I think coupling them together with "Mr. & Mrs. John Doe" would sound to me like they were still married.

Thanks for the confirmation! They also have the same last name, so I will go with son of Jane Doe and John Doe.
