Match my dress to guys' shirts?

I just ordered my Maggie Sottero wedding dress, and I went with the "light gold" color, which is sort of a cream color, definitely not white, but not too far off. So now I'm wondering about the guys' suits/tuxes (haven't decided on that yet), should they get off-white shirts for them? Do tux places have that sort of thing? I feel like it will look odd if I don't match my groom, or if he doesn't match his groomsmen. I'm sure this must happen from time to time, any ideas/suggestions??

Thanks!

  • it won't look odd. no one, even you, will notice the difference in whites, nor care.

  • Put light gold, ivory, cream, and white in a lineup, and ask 100 people to identify them.  99 people will say they're all white.  The hundredth person is a graphic designer or a bride.

It doesn't matter.  Seriously.  If anyone points out that the attire uses different shades of white, I will personally buy you a drink.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. • There is such a thing as ivory shirts for guys, but I always prefer the look of nice, crisp white. I promise you it will not look odd if you're not "matching" them.

  • I also got a light gold maggie dress, so I'm going to go with ivory shirts for the guys.  The groom will wear an ivory version of the vest that we picked out for the groomsmen.  I think it will look great to have us all in the same shade of white.  I once saw a bride with a white veil and an ivory dress, and even though people have said that you won't notice, I thought it was such an eye-sore!

Actually, Kristin's sig pic is a great example: it's pretty noticeable that her dress and the groom's shirt are different colors once it's pointed out, but I've seen that picture hundreds of times on various posts, and I've never noticed that.  It's one of those things that you really only see if you're looking for it.

And of course, Kristin and her groom still look damn hot, even with her in ivory and him in white.

I really just don't think that you'll ever get the 2 fabrics to match (and then photograph, due to different fabrics) exactly the same. That's why he wore a nice crisp white.

Yeah that doesn't sound like a good idea (unless of course the veil and dress were from different designers and just happened to be called ivory by one and diamond white by the other or whatever). I don't think it's the same thing as a bride in ivory and a groom in white though.

I do not like it when the bride wears a white dress and an ivory veil or vice versa. And, going against the majority here, I do not like it when the bride wears white and the guys wear ivory or vice versa.

I mean, what's the problem with putting the guys in ivory if you're not wearing white? If you really wanted the crispness of white, why didn't you pick a white dress? Technically, I don't care if the bride cares but since you're asking......that's my opinion.

Both the GMs and the GM can wear ivory shirts and the groom can just wear a different vest and tie than the GM.

If the BMs are wearing a sash, I would recommend that being in ivory as well.

(This is all based on the fact that your light gold dress is the same as ivory?!) You can always take the dress or a swatch of it to the tux/suit rental and/or to the BM dress fore for comparison to make sure.

    GL! :-)

  • Even though my dress was ivory and champagne, my DH wore a white shirt.  I didn't like the ivory shirt at Men's Wearhouse at all.  It was way too yellow compared to my dress, and I think that's the problem with ivory in general... it comes in all different shades.  White was much easier.

I completely agree ... the "Ivory" shirt at Men's Wearhouse just didn't look nice. It's way too yellow. The saleslady kept saying that I wouldn't want the groom to be wearing white if I wasn't ... then I thought about it and decided it didn't matter, haha. So we're going with white shirts for all the guys, but the ivory vests and ties.
