Escort Cards for the DIY-Challenged Bride

Alright ladies, I need your help. I am the first to admit that I am not a DIY bride. I'm going to make the ribbon board for our escort cards for sure, but right now, that's about it. So I need suggestions for how to make escort and table number cards. I could order these from Magnet Street and have them match my invites (like this idea, but it is a little pricey), but the problem here is how do I get them to look professional? I don't want to hand write them myself because it won't look as nice. So if I go this route, I think I'm going to hire a calligrapher to write the guests' names and table numbers on them so that they look like they were printed by a computer.

Or, I could make these myself, and I have no idea how to do that and have them look all cute and pretty. I know that I could make a simple template on Word and then print them onto cardstock, but I don't know how these wouldn't turn out all boring.

So I would love some suggestions! Tell me what you're planning to do!

  • Can you post any of your inspiration pictures? That would help me figure out if there is a good way to DIY.

I really don't have many inspiration ideas because I'm either going to order from Magnet Street which would have this design: <a href="http://www.magnetstreet.com/details/market/517/productId/27968" rel="nofollow">clicky</a>, or I'd make my own, and I don't have my heart set on any one design yet. My colors are lavendar and ivory, and I'm going for a romantic feel. My dress has lace on it and we're getting married outside in a garden. I like the way these look: <a href="http://www.elizabethannedesigns.com/blog/2010/06/02/past-to-present-timeless-vintage-wedding-ideas/" rel="nofollow">clicky</a> but they are very simple. I'm also up for either tented or folded.

  • Oh I like the Magnet Street ones a lot, but yeah you would need to hire a calligrapher or find a friend with pretty handwriting to put to work.

Your second link could definitely be DIY pretty easily. If you want to tackle it, I would buy the pre-scored tented cards from Paper Source (or similar store). They can be fed through a home printer. Then I would make a simple design in Word and download a nice font. I like Bickham Script (clicky) or Pen Tweaks (clicky) for the guest's names and then a simple font for the table number (we are using Optimus Princeps), or vice versa.

If you wanted to incorporate a lacey feel into them, you could get one of those lace border trimmers from Martha Stewart (like this or similar) and quickly do that to the bottom of the folds.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Escort Cards for the DIY-Challenged Bride : This would be really simple, even for the DIY-challenged. Do you do any label printing at work, or know anyone who does? It's the exact same concept. <strong>Your first link is really pretty, but I don't like the look of the lines where you're supposed to write guests' names and tables. If you go for those, see if you can get rid of them and just have a calligrapher put the info in those areas.</strong>

Yeah, I don't either. That link is completely customizable though, so I can (and would) change the colors, fonts, and remove that line.

  • I really like those!! OR you can look at VP...they have folded business cards (probably cheaper than Magnet Street)
