  I'd say if it were me, I'd ONLY buy a dress I could try on. If the dress is made well then strapless isn't a problem for me (40 D) but it really depends on the dresses.
  
  Maybe try some of the bigger bridal stores like Davids or Alfred Angelo? They have all sized to try on.

  Is this for someone else?  Let her decide and do the choosing, I understand you trying to be helpful but focusing on the fact that she's a "plus size" bride may really hurt her feelings.  Please just be aware of her feelings while you're helping.
  
  That being said the larger retail gown stores usually carry more sizes like DB.  Otherwise, the smaller ones will have some in larger sizes but not as many.  Just focus on her and what she likes, she'll find the one!

  I think that st rapless would probably be the toughest thing for her to pull off if she's a plus-sized hourglass... does she wear strapless ever?

  Coming from a bride who had 3 plus size bridesmaids, I know how hard it is. Especially when most bridal shops only carry dresses in a size 8 or size 12. I know it get frustrating for my bridesmaids because they cant try anything on. That being said, David's has a pretty good plus size section and I hear Alfred Angelo does too and doesnt charge for plus sizes. I know most dresses I looked at were going to be another at least $20-$45 for a pluz size, which although I guess it's understandable because its more fabric it hurts the girls feelings. I still havent found the perfect bridesmaids dresses so I feel your pain.

  defintily the gal needs to try the dress on but there are style that look amazing on hourglass plus size.

  Sometimes you have to think of non traditional places for a bridesmaid dress. Both of my girls are curvy. I needed a size 16 and 14 dress. I found them at JcPenny and only paid $35. They are beautiful long black gowns. If you have girls in different sizes I would recommend looking at department stores that carry misses & plus size dresses in the same style. Most department stores offer free shipping sales online so you could always order & return them if needed.
