Best style of BM dress for a plus size lady?

I am a Bm in my brother's wedding in August. The bride told us we could all pick out any black knee length dress we want. All her BM's are georgeous and thin, I am a plus size lady. What kind of style looks best on a plus size woman??

TIA!

Re: Best style of BM dress for a plus size lady?

  • It really depends on each person.  I'd probably worry more about fabrics that styles, per se.  I tend to avoid satin, and I'm not quite plus size!  If you're uncomfortable in strapless, then don't go that route.  Truthfully, I'd just hit up your local department store (JcPenneys, Macys, etc) and browse dresses to see what you like, and what looks fantastic on you.  Take a friend who will be honest with you, if you don't trust your own judgement.
  • Ditto the other girls. There's no one magic style that works for "plus size" because there are so many different body types within that category (just as two size 2 people can have different shapes). What kind of dresses usually look good on you? If the bride's letting you pick your own, there's no need to buy a dress that's marketed as a "BM dress" - you can choose something from the stores you tend to buy from, which will probably be cheaper and fit better.
  • YOu probably already have a sense of what looks good on you, but if you don't, don't be afraid to go places and try things on. Even if they don't look good on the hanger, they could look amazing on you. I am on that side of dress sizes, so I hate dress shopping, but if you bring a friend along to keep your spirits up, it could be fun.
And black is slimming. Be thankful that you aren't wearing bubblegum pink satin, right?

<div>PLEASE don't feel this way! Just because someone is thin does not mean that they're gorgeous and just because someone has a little more to love does not mean that they automatically can't be beautiful! </div>

  • You don't know how to dress yourself?  I find this an odd question - go try on dresses and see what looks good.  You know better than anyone else would what looks nice on you.
  • A dress that cuts below the bust and flares out in the skirt will probably look fab.

  • I have a plus size bridesmaid. I always loved the form fitting dresses but she explained that she was a little self conscious. I found a dress that is chiffon and has an empire waist. It is very flowy and it fits any body type. All of my girls love it!
  • An empire waist can make many people look pregnant.  Please make sure that your girls have tried that on and given you honest opinions.  That's part of the danger with that seam line and a plus size person.  It all depends on the individual though.

On some it could look great and on others, you need to go back to the drawing board.
