September 2012 Weddings

I feel way behind!

We are getting married 9-22 and I feel like I am super behind on stuff, but I also feel like I don't know what to do. I have my dress my venue and my bridesmaid dress. We are DIYing the food, flowers, and decoractions. We are on a very low budget and I just don't know where to start. Segustions would be great!

  • Hi Kari!

Do you know what you'll want to do wtih the flowers? Have you planned out those DIY projects? If they're not fresh flowers, it's something you can do a little bit of every once in a while, and you'll get done in no time!

Have you picked out an officiant? It's not clear from your post if your venue is a church, and the officiant is build in. And I'd start looking at invitations (and decide if you want to make them yourself, or get them through vista print or something similar).

For some ideas on the DIY stuff, I'd recommend the DIY and budget boards. They'll have some great ideas.

It doesn't sound like you're far behind at all, to me. Good luck on your planning!
  • I think you are doing great. Have you thought about what you are going to do for music, or photography?

  • I'm not much help, because I'm way behind also! I've been so busy with other things I haven't even had a chance to think about my wedding. I have my dress and thats where my planning ends....

  • It is  very over welming
  • If you need to find an officiant, I'd do that next. Otherwise, I'd tackle DJ and photographer next if you're planning on having them. Once I had all of the big vendors out of the way, I felt so much better! Also, if you give us an idea of what else you're planning on having at your wedding, it'll give us a better idea of what to recommend! ;)

  • U still have a lot of time till 9/22/12... Don't get overwealmed! I found a party planer who gave us a package deal that included everything from the dj, mc, photos, photo albums, video, flowers, invitations, to limo n party favors... The price was pretty reasonable n the most important thing is I felt releaved that I didn't miss anything... Good luck!:
  • i'm a 9/22 bride, too!

Hmm, what about cakes? I would agree with PP though that photog, DJ, and officiant should be next on your list. Good yet affordable photographers and DJs tend to book up fast!

You can always check your "to-do's" on TK for additional ideas. I would start by making a list of things you still want/need to book and go from there. :)

  • I agree with PP's - Get your big vendors out of the way as they are important and book up fast! Check out the checklist on TK as well, it's helpful for the little things you tend to forget
  • I agree with the others that DJ, Photog, Cake woudl all be high on my list to get the vendors out of the way. You have PLENTY of time, many brides have pulled it off in shorter time periods than this :)  You can totallly do this!
  • I have my Photog ( he is a Dr. I work for and used to teach photog in college he is doing it for free) my mom is a cake decorater so she will be doing that. I still need to find an officiant I dont know where to start with that.
  • Oh and my wedding is outside the place I am having my reception.

  • Hello fellow Sept 22 bride! I am as well! Sounds like you have a great start. I would agree with the others.

    - Start thinking about ordering invites
    - pick who will be performing the wedding
    - DJ (the good ones get booked)
    -Photographer
    - Food

Thats what I have plus all you have. You still have time. Just over 5months! :)
  • Have you checked out The Knot's checklist? It gives a good general timeline of what to have done yet. I'd check there and if there is something that you should have done before 6 months that you haven't tackled yet, I'd start working on that. Either way, sounds like you've got a good start, don't worry it will all come together!
