Wedding Woes

Beware of David's Bridal!!

I went to David's Bridal on 4/1/11 for my final "post alterations" fitting on my wedding gown. Boy, had they altered it--they ruined it!!! The dress was ivory and the front panel of the skirt was covered in white blotches that were shaped like a "puddle" . The girl helping me lace the dress suggested that it was like that when I had brought it back to be altered. No! Not only did I look over the dress with a fine tooth comb when I got it, but I also had two other individuals look it over--in two different light sources!! My guess is that they either did not use distilled, mineral free water in the steamer OR they actually spilled water on the dress and it either left nasty water spots (as satin is prone to do if not handled carefully) OR they spiled some other liquid on the dress and in an attempt to clean it, used a cleaner with a mild bleaching agent possibly meant for white satin. The dress had been discontinued and the ONLY way to get another just like it before the wedding was to track it down at another DB store, and THEN they could not guarantee what condition it would be in, because any dress from another store would be a "floor model" and essentially used, PLUS, depending on where it was, how long shipping would take, and how much it would have to be repaired / altered there could be no guarantee that I would have the dress I originally picked out in time for my wedding. My only alternative was to find a dress in that store that needed minimal alterations and get it off the rack that day---AND PAY THE DIFFERENCE ON A POSSIBLY MORE EXPENSIVE DRESS BECAUSE THEY RUINED THE FIRST ONE. Well, all the dresses in my original price range were either way too small, way too big, or WHITE. I had already planned on, and purchased decor pending on my dress being IVORY. Well the good news is, I finally found an ivory dress close in style to the one DAVID'S BRIDAL RUINED, however, it had beading missing in two spots and a pick in the satin on the skirt. BAD NEWS is...despite the fact that the new dress was essentially damaged (albeit in ways that were less noticable) they still made me pay the FULL DIFFERENCE IN PRICE ($260.00) although I kept pointing out the damages and kept asking (politely and calmly) for a discount. They said they could have alterations look at the beading and fix it, but really....as if I would leave another dress with them at this point. I think that DB does have a decent selection of dresses, and, although up until time to pay they were kissing my ass helping me find dresses, their overall customer service was lacking, AND I have serious questions about the true fabric knowledge of their alterations department. I don't feel it should have necessarily been an even swap (although many of my friends and family do), but I feel they could have at least cut the difference between the two dresses in half.
