Wedding Party

Role for close family friend?

I have a very close family friend that I would like to involve in the bridal party, but I am not sure in what capacity.  I already have 8 bridesmaids and am not looking to add any more, but she is very close to me and I would like to give her some sort of role.  Any ideas?

  • A reading?
  • Ditto on the reading.

  • Trio on the reading.  It can add a really personal touch to the day.
  • I'd also ask her to do a reading.

Just don't ask her to do a menial task!  Remember, being a guest is an honour too.

  • great idea.  I looked at a few passages that I like, but would it be acceptable to have her pick one so it would be more personal?
  • That's fine, if you want to do that.

But what happens if she picks one that you don't like? Would you be O.K. with that? If not, I suggest picking one for her, or maybe giving her a few to choose from.

I asked my uncle to read and he happily accepted, and when I asked if he preferred Old Testament vs. New Testament (Catholic wedding) he said he didn't care. Then later he told my mom on the phone that he was very touched by me asking him. So remember that the actual text might not matter as much as the gesture.
