May 2013 Weddings

I am new! Hi Everyone!

Hi ... I am Jody. I am new to the boards even though I have been looking at all the photos since I got engaged on my birthday in March.  I am getting married in Ireland in May 2013 (my fiance is Irish and lives in Ireland)  I am in Boston.  It has been difficult to begin planning long distance so I have really enjoyed reading about what you ladies are doing, especially around timing and when I should be getting things done!  I am so afraid that I am going to plan this wedding like I plan my cooking ... never on time and it always a rush at the end and underdone!  I figure I have enough time to pace myself and to get this right!

I have booked the venue because I panicked when I started contacting venues.  I want a small-ish wedding and lots of venues in Ireland didn't want to take me on a weekend because they can book and sell to 200+ weddings in their limited season, so when I found one close to what I was looking for, that didn't mind a >100 person wedding, I jumped on it!  I haven't actually seen the venue!  Neither has my fiance!  I only have pictures and on-line reviews to go by!

Re: I am new! Hi Everyone!

  • Ireland- that's amazing!! Congrats!  Good luck planning! I'm in the Boston area too :)

  • Hi!  Congratulations on being engaged and welcome to the board.  I can't imagine trying to plan long distance!  Being on top of things and getting them done as soon as possible definitely helps me, even though I'm getting married 20 minutes from where I'm living this summer.  Are you going to move to Ireland once you're married?  I'm just wondering, since I've heard it's an absolutely beautiful place.

  • Congrats, and welcome aboard!! Ireland sounds AMAZING!!! It's actually on our list of honeymoon options and would have been a top contender for a destination wedding had our family been able to fly and do a DW!!

Also, I'm in Boston, too! Where are you?

  • Hi Everyone ... I am just getting back to the boards today.  ChefBride, I am on the South Shore and work downtown. You should DEFINITELY  consider Ireland for your honeymoon, it is absolutely beautiful!  I can tell you about all the best places!  Annas, yes, I will probably be moving back to Ireland for at least part of the year although there is still a lot to sort out, probably the topic of another post!!!  Thanks for the interest everyone, I am really touched by the support!  I want to know about everyone's plans!  I am need some guidance.

This is a picture of the castle where we will be getting married. ( www.belleekcastle.com )
Believe it or not, this is a "small" castle.  There are only 15 bedrooms which is small for a castle!

Are you getting married in New England?  Whereabouts?  We had to choose and I would have been very happy to get married in New England.  It made more sense for us in Ireland because his family is bigger.

I just realized I can respond to individual posts ... d'uh.  Planning long distance is really tough so I am glad I have the time because it is going to take a couple of trips. I haven't even physically been to our venue yet which is absolutely nerve wrecking!  I am going to move to Ireland - I lived there before that is how we met - but we have a lot figuring things out to do - my job/his job being in different places.  I am looking forward to it though.  <div>
</div><div>So if you are getting married at the same time I am, what have you done by this time already?  I am thinking I am going to be stuck if I don't get a lot more done.  So far it is the venue and the Cathedral and that is it.  Where are you in the planning?</div>
  • OMG that venue is so gorgeous I could just die!!! Congrats!!

Oh we also live on the South Shore! We're in Kingston, RIGHT on the Plymouth line, just 15 minutes from the Cape. We're getting married in Kingston, actually, right down the street from our house LOL. Since you're on the south shore you might know it, Indian Pond Country Club

I DO!  And it is gorgeous!  There is nothing like a NE summer wedding!  I love it!  I am in Hingham myself and the place is getting so pretty ... you barely need decorations!  That is so great!
  • Do you have your dress yet? Because I already have mine and have *nothing* at all but the very best things to say about the boutique where I bought it.

I'm not too far from Hingham! I drive up Rt 53 to the Derby Street plaza shoppes all the time. In fact, we were there this weekend registering at Crate & Barrel and Williams-Sonoma :)

Tell me where you bought it!  I don't have mine yet.  I have about 20 -30 lbs to lose and I don't really want to shop without that gone because it will change the way I look at myself.  But nothing is stopping me from trying on a few things :-)
  • It's down closer to me in Plymouth. It's right on 3A down on the waterfront. Maria of Italy is the name of the place. It's owned by a little old Italian lady and her brother (and their other sister owns and runs the salon under it). They were wonderful. They're small, so they only have a few designers' lines, but I went for a few trips before deciding and ordering and they were wonderful about steering me towards what flattered my body.

Do you have any idea what style of dress you might be looking for? Are you going simple and flowy and easy to travel or are you thinking beaded ballgown to be fitting with the castle?

Also, if you want would you like to "hook up" on FaceBook? (I understand totally if you'd rather not.)
