So apparently the E! network sunk to a new low and decided to air a show that has brides competing in challenges in order to win plastic surgey so then can look perfect for their wedding day.

I have no problem with people getting plastic surgery, especially when it's medically necessary or even to simply fix something you don't like. For instance, if Owen Wilson wanted to get a nose job to fix his nose because it's in the shape of an "S", then cool, I get it.

But this just seems so sad to me. Of course, when it airs I'll check it out because I'm curious to watch this trainwreck.

Thoughts?

    I watch a lot of E!.  Like, a lot.

    I'll probably catch this show too.  And I will weep for humanity.

    You can't blame E! really though.  You can't argue with what gets ratings.  I blame the bridal industry, completely.  It's built weddings up to be massive events of too muchery and drama when really, it should be about celebrating a new chapter in a couple's life.

    Yeah, I read that earlier today.  I just shook my head.  It is very sad.  Although, I could  use some lipo! Ha! It's just another example of how some people get a little crazy in preparation for their wedding.

    This is a very good point!

    I used to be strongly against elective plastic surgery, as well, but ever since I stopped breast feeding and my already very small boobs  lost their perkiness I really hate them. I definitely would consider breast augmentation. Of course, this would be after we have a house, no debt, Emerson has money put away for college, etc.

    I'm actually against any sort of elective surgery, but I have very good reasons, and they have nothing to do with the normal arguments of self esteem and such.

    And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now.     Quit being so responsible.  I know plenty of women who live in trailers but you better believe they have Playboy bunny tits. 


    I'm trying not to judge too harshly, because if you've always wanted something done anyway, I could see wanting it done before your wedding day.  I would have loved to have had my grill fixed <em>before</em> our wedding.  Oh well.  But if you're going on a reality show to win plastic surgery, you're obviously an AW.

    My best friend (your twin) felt the same way and had the surgery done a few years ago.  She is really happy that she did it. 

    I'm mostly afraid of the plastic surgery horror stories, but i feel that way about everything.  I'm always a 'worst case scenario" person, so it would definitely not be for me.

    Yeah, you have a good point betrothed - about what kind of smut people will actually watch.  But the networks are keenly aware of it and they play into it.  Kinda lame.

    Very true, B. And I'm fully guilty of this. The thing is, 95% of the time it's not for the drama or because I think it's good TV. I just have this insane interest in human behavior and always wonder why people do the things they do.

    I suppose it's from growing up living in the same home as my grandfather who's a (now retired) psychiatrist.

    I have an appt. on Monday to see if I am a candidate. I am getting to the point where I can't wear contacts anymore without them bothering me and me looking strung out all the time. And I can't see as well with glasses, even though my prescription is up-to-date. If the Dr. says I would be a good candidate, I will get a 2nd opinion and if that's a go, I'm going to schedule it.

    I know exactly what you man.  I've been fucking around with contacts since I was 13, and my glasses - while they may be my prescription, I never feel like I can see out of them as well as I can with my contacts.

    My eye doctor told me this summer I'm a great candidate for it so, now I'm just waiting another year or two to save some money.  I want it SO BAD.
