plastic???

I was at the local salvation army store looking for vintage glassware to use for centerpieces. I ended up finding a ton of plastic vases that are made to look like old, cut glass, the kind with lots of fascets and sharp angles (I hope that makes sense). They were clearly left from someone's wedding. Although I'm  really not hep on plastic, they might pass for glass if entirely filled with flowers. And they are only $0.96 each! My budget loves that. Is this a good buy or should I keep looking?

  • Im sure you could clean them up and make em shiny. Plus after your finished with them pass them on again and I'm sure you could get most of your cost back and help out another bride to be...
  • Only you can tell if they are going to look cheap or not. Are they small or large? I'd say if they are on the smaller side then no one should be able to tell! Awesome find if they work out!

  • I agree with PPs.  Did you get any pics of them?  I'm interested to see what they actually look like!

  • I said other - I would pass, not because they look gross, but because you can do better. We are having milk glass vases at our wedding and most of ours have been purchased for one or two dollars. We have looked at Goodwill, thrift stores, but the most successful place has been the flea market. Milk glass is a lot harder to find than the style of glass that you are talking about. Most of the vases we have are bud but one of the biggest vases we bought yesterday at the flea market for 50 cents. Keep looking and get what you really want - I swear you will find it for the same, if not better, price!

    Keep looking!!

I bought TONSSS of antique milk glass from thrift stores, etc. and didn't pay more than $0.25-1.00 per piece. And I have BIG ones. I just waited for the "sale" days at the thrift store (you know- X color stickers are 50% off, or all items in "housewares")

I will admit to buying 2 vases for a little less than $5 at one thrift store, but they're a really nice, kind of rare hobnail type. Very expensive on Ebay. Most definitely worth the $5 LOL

I would keep looking, I know (from lots of experience) that you can get REALLY nice things at thrift stores/ garage sales if you try hard enough!

ETA- I totally didn't read the post above me. LOL oops.

  • I agree to hold out. Unless you absolutely love them! I found nine of my twenty aqua mason jars at thrift stores for $0.45-$1.99
  • Thanks girls. I think I will wait a while. I'm sure they will be at the store for some time! And no, I didn't take any pictures. Sorry!
