Here is a list of venues that allow byob and open catering

Now that we have booked our reception/venue location I am happy to share this list with other knotties. I know that there are many more so please feel free to add to the open catering/BYOB venue list.

The list below offers Open Catering AND Bring your Own Beverage

3) St. Paul City House - St. Paul, MN ( available for rental in 2011)
4) Intelligent Nutrients - NE Minneapolis
5) Polish National American Hall - NE Minneapolis
6) Silverwood Park Great Hall - St. Anthony ( list of preferred caterers negotiable)
7) The GrainBelt Keg House NE Minneapolis
8) Cinema Ballroom - St. Paul
9) The Soap Factory - NE Minneapolis
10) Rau Barber Photography Studio ( if getting married in 2010)

    Summit Manor allows BYOB, but not outside catering.

    Washington County Courthouse allows outside caterers, I am not sure on the BYOB as they are very strict on their alcohol policies.

    With the Historic Courthouse, it depends on what you call BYOB. Yes, they let the couple buy and bring in their own alcohol. But no, they won't allow you to ask your guests to BYOB. But then again, I'm not sure any venue would want you to handle liquor tailgating-style. I don't think any amount of liability insurance would make that a good idea!

    And IMHO, I wouldn't really call their policies "very strict." No hard liquor, no kegs. That's pretty much it. Oh, and you have to have someone serving... but it doesn't have to be a licensed bartender or even paid staff. Yeah, it's restrictive... but I've seen way worse. But then again, much of my family lives in the Bible belt, where you're lucky if they even allow champagne for toasting.

    The Elm Creek Reserve allows for BYOB beer and wine.  There is a preferred catering list but its pretty extensive in food type and price ranges

    The courthouse also restricts the number of alcoholic drinks you are allowed to serve, i think it is three per guest.  To me that is "very strict" because I am not sure what other restrictions a reception hall could place on alcohol, they already tell you type/qty.

    BTW- I am in no way demeaning the Courthouse, it is a historic building that needs to be protected and is beautiful.  FI and I are getting married there, and we choose not to have our reception there because of the liquor policies.  Both our families enjoy beer so those policies were too restrictive for us.

    Just use Bellagala's venue finder: http://www.bellagala.com/vendorfetch/

    You can search on both of those things.  No need to maintain a separate list...

    Liberty: there is no strict limit on the number of drinks. They advise that you plan for/try to stay around 3 drinks per person. They're not going to kick  Uncle Ernie out if he drinks 5 beers. Unless he starts punching somebody or takes a leak on the security guard's shoes.

    I didn't mean to imply that you were demeaning the venue, I just don't want someone to decide against a great venue for reasons that aren't entirely accurate.

    My contract said 3 alcoholic drinks per person, oh well, I guess I will have to look that over tonight...

    Maybe is correct....I believe in the past they may have imposed that restriction, but in their most updated contracts it advises 3 drinks/person for planning purposes only

    The Semple has open catering but no BYOB - probably a mainstream venue, but just in case :-)

    Thanks for the list....I was looking at some of these venues--do you know if the grainbelt keg house is for sale?  I saw a realty ad online.

    St. Paul College Club allows BYOB, but not open catering :-) They have a classically trained, french chef on site that will create custom menus though.
