  Just go with a white shirt, even if your dress is ivory.  Ivory shirts always look dingy to me.

  This is my first thought as well. If you are trying to match your dress, dont. It will look fine, no one will no the difference and you wont run yourself ragged looking for fitted ivory shirts.

  We have a white shirt for the ceremony. He's wearing a black tux, ivory vest and ivory bowtie.
  
  For the reception I know he will shed his jacket asap after the first dance, and I don't like the outfit without the jacket. So for that he's removing the vest and putting on black suspenders.
  
  I was just afraid the white shirt, black suspenders and black pants will look too much like a waiter. I thought the ivory might help.

  If you're worried about him looking like a waiter, then an ivory shirt isn't going to make any difference.  Personally, I don't think he will look like a waiter, but if you're really concerned, what about a shirt in your wedding color?

  No one is going to mistake the groom with a waiter, promise. I really wouldnt worry about this too much.
