So, when you register at multiple places is it for different things or more of the same things or a combination?

Example: Towels. If I register for towels at Target do I register for different towels at Bed Bath and Beyond, or some other item such as kitchen stuff. And likewise, if I register for everything at BBB, what would I register for at Target?

I guess I feel like I have found a bunch of things I like at Bed Bath and Beyond and I'm not seeing the need for another registery (outside the Amazon registery for electronics!). Am I missing something?

We registered at BB&B, Target & Williams Sonoma. The only reason I did Williams Sonoma is because I wanted a few specialty items I couldn't find anywhere else.

The majority of what we registered for is at BB&B. Target we did because it was the only place I found a shower curtain I loved. Then we "saved" a couple of things to just build the list up a bit there so it just wasn't a bunch of bathroom stuff.

Good question! Yea, why wouldn't we just register at one store if they have everything there?
FI and I were going to register at those stores this weekend. Can't wait to hear replies....

I hadn't thought about that actually, good question. I need to find more out about the Amazon registry. FI will jump for joy if I let him register for some electronics.

Kim - FBIL got married last October and got a PS3 so FI is determined to register for "boy things" LOL He also wants to register for tools. I figure why not, if people don't want to buy the stuff they won't.

We registered for different things at different stores. We're registered at 3 places, only because we couldn't find all the thigns we wanted at one store (i.e., our bedding is at Kohl's, shower stuff at Target, etc.).

I think you'd be fine just registering at BB&B, as long as you have things at a variety of price points, and that there is a BB&B relatively accessible to all/most of your guests.

*butting in* I haven't done a wedding registry for myself yet, but I did a baby registry.

I did one at Babys R Us and one at Target, but I did research before I did it. I don't recommend putting the same things on both registries, some people will only check one and you will get multiples. That said, both had the same bottle/pump set I wanted, and I registered for the cheaper of the two.

That ALSO being said, I have bought Target towels and Meijer Towels and BBB Towels. They were all the same color. I bought them all within a week of each other. My Target towels are BY FAR my favorite ones, they have lasted the longest, shrank the least, still fluffy after *cough* multiple washes. ( I have had them all for about 5 years) Don't just assume that you will like the ones at one store or another without really feeling them. If it helps, buy a washcloth of each set and compare them at home. ( That way you have a relatively cheap idea of what works and what won't, if it will fall apart after the first wash, etc). Same thing with sheets. If you find one at BBB for 30 in pattern A and find the same pattern at Target for 15 -- make sure they have the same thread count, same quality. No one wants to buy you something of bad quality, just because it is the cheaper of the two.

While doing multiple price points is a great reason to have more than one registry, it shouldn't be the only reason. Most stores honor registries online. If you want a second registry, do something that you wouldn't buy for yourself. There will be groups of people who may chip in to get a larger/more expensive gift like that patio set you saw or the nice artwork/nicer china whatever.

After that outrageously long response I will butt out and resume my normal slacking on wedding plans and work duties.

I didn't read the responses above because I'm tired and lazy... so if this has already been said, sorry

We registered at Target and JCPenny. Target was mostly kitchen and home organizational stuff. JCPenny will be for bedroom, bathroom and remaining kitchen/random stuff. I read somewhere that you don't want to register for the same stuff at both places because if someone decides to only go to one store they won't know it's on your other registry and then you might end up with duplicates.

This may sound snarky but it is just my opinion--I'm not sure why people feel it is necessary to register for electronics such as game consoles, televisions, DVD players, etc. I thought a registry is about asking for items that you need (not want) to start your life together. Use the money you get and buy your own electronics. An Xbox is certainly not necessary for everyday living and is more of a want. FI's friend registered for iPods, an Xbox 360, an expensive TV, and a bunch of other electronics. They didn't get any of it, as they shouldn't have. But I thought it was pretty ballsy to put those things on their registry...

With that said, people normally register at 2 stores because one may not have all of what you are looking for. I believe you can register at Home Depot. We'll be doing that so we can register for our lawncare stuff (wedges, garbage cans, hoses, etc).

Corinne - I totally see your point and agree, we won't be registering for a big screen or anything like that but things like a nice digital videocamera and an air purifier. But I would also point out that things like a kitchenaid mixer and the greatest dyson are a want too.

And to be honest, since we've lived together we have most things we need. Everything we are looking at registering for are things we want, like nicer towels, nicer plates, and yes, a nice kitchenaid mixer. None of it we truly need.

I don't really see a big difference in registering for a digital camera or DVD player vs. a Kitchenaid mixer or expensive dishes. All of them are wants...no one needs any of those items for everyday living. That's the nice part about making a registry, in my opinion. You get to register for things that want. I think this is especially true today since many couples already live together and have the necessities already.

One of my good friends registered for a nice Canon digital camera and a bunch of people went in on it and bought it for her. She was pumped and got to take lots of really cool pictures on her honeymoon.

I think it depends, I'd give the side-eye to the registery filled with things like an Ipod, big screen TV, surround-sound, x-box, etc. A few things not so big of a deal but its all about moderation.

Personally I'd rather buy the couple a camera or Ipod if they were going to use it all the time than some fancy china they will never use.

Yes, yes! Can I register for sweet camera lenses and stuff I want?! Or is that "tacky" too? Jumping in on the conversation, I was going to ask about what to do with registering too, we honestly cannot think of a store we need things from... we have all the kitchen/bath/home items we need. We are going to do a honeymoon registry, but then what? What do I open up at the shower? All envelopes? I'm good with it if the guests are!

I registered at Macys and BBB. There were items at Macys that BBB did not have which is one of the reasons why I registered at Macys.

A lot of stores are starting registry programs. I dont know if Lowes and Home Depot still has one. But if you already have stuff for your house then you can do outdoor items. One of our friends registered for a tool storage and whole bunch of items men boys like to play with.

We have everything we need but I'd like some new sheets, better towels, nicer pots and pans, some cool gadgets for the kitchen, etc. So even though you may not actually need anything, you can still register for things you'd like to have. I never understood how registering for some gifts is ok but other gifts is tacky. Its basically a big list of stuff to buy.

If you want/need camera stuff I don't see the problem personally. You know your family and friends and whether they'll be offended. I think if all you registered for is personal use items it might be odd mostly because some aunts/grandmas/etc want/expect to buy you a nice set of towels or whatever.

I probably wouldn't do the camera thing just because I don't want to offend anyone (it's so hard to please people ;) and plus, it would be an online site, not a brick n mortar store I'd purchase from anyway, so it probably wouldn't work anyway.

I know aunts/grandmas/etc expect to get you towels and stuff and that's my dilemma. We have so much of that stuff combining our 2 households that it's ridiculous. We don't even have a place for everything. I'm going to have to think on this more!
