Cake bakers

Does anyone know of a good cake baker that is reasonably priced (around 3.00 a slice)?  I keep running into bakers that work from home which I think is a little strange since I don't get to meet them at an actual bakery.

Thanks.

Check out this really creative baker - Jeana with Humble Pie Desserts -she has a website. I tasted her stuff at an Arbor Pointe Open house. Yummy.

Matty Cakes is amazing. I think their website is currently down, but you can email him at matty@mattycakesaustin.com

I think a couple of other brides from this board used him as well. FI and I met with a few other bakers, and he definitely stood out because of his delicious cakes, amazing customer service, personality, and creativity.

He definitely has a bakery (in a beautiful location), and our cake is $3/slice.

There are many delicious bakers in Austin and the surrounding area. Simon Lee is delish, but quite expensive. Matty Cakes falls in that price range but I was not impressed with his cakes/icing at all. Check out Michelle's Patisserie - not using her, but her cake samples are YUM! Smile

Check out classic cakes by Lori - in dripping springs. She makes beautiful and delicious cakes at a very reasonable price!

Austin Cake Lady. She is out of her home in North Austin but they are delicious and only 2.50 a slice! She's been in the business for over 30 years!

<div>I am so surprised. I had to complete opposite experience. Michelle's Patisserie was a total let down. I was not impressed by their cakes (or customer service). My fiance and I left with a really bad taste in our mouth (literally and metaphorically). She was really dismissive with us and did not seem to be interested in our business whatsoever. The first two samples we tried were really bland, dull, and stale. The third sample was way too sweet and had a really weird texture.</div><div> </div><div>On the other hand, we did a tasting with Matty Cakes and requested three flavors of icing, filling, and cake, but he went above and beyond. He brought us EIGHT different cakes, 6 different icings, and 3 fillings. We thoroughly enjoyed most of the flavors and his cakes were moist and delicious. FI and I are really big foodies, and while the cakes were exceptional, his creativity was what really drove us to go with him. We were originally thinking of a traditional cake with some ribbon accents, but he asked us about our wedding and our story and came up with an amazing design cake that really represented us. I really appreciate his creativity and his desire to go above and beyond. I think he was the only baker that really wanted to know about us and make a unique cake that represented that. </div><div>
</div><div>We also did a tasting with Torte Bella and their cakes were flat out AMAZING as well. They are really reasonably priced, too... around the same price as Matty Cakes. The only reason we didn't go with them was the fact that Matty Cakes really blew us away. </div><div>
</div><div>I hope that helps. I just wanted to provide a little bit more information about our experience. Good luck with planning!</div>

Blue Note Bakery is south austin is not only amazing but their cake tasting was an amazing experience. Check out their website! They were the only baker we found that did 3-d cakes (my fiance is getting the UT tower cake) completely edible as most used some type of styrofoam

Cakes by Kathy.  Her cake is so moist (which seems to be rare these days for some strange reason).  I had her cake at 2 weddings and at the Bridal Extravaganza in January and she had the best cake there.
