Rec your mattress

I can't sleep (mind going with work)

We desperately need a new mattress, right now the bed we have is old and we don't have a box spring and its hell, I find myself going to the couch in the middle of the night for comfort.

I want pillow top but don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

TIA! :)

Right after the wedding we bought the Sleep to Live mattress from Sleepys. It has changed my life! They come in different price ranges as well as different levels of softness. I think we paid $1700 for a king with tax and delivery.

We have  a tempupedic.  I have a love/hate relationship with it.  It retains heat, but I've been told we can buy a different cover for it.  It is super comfortable though.

I cant remember mine. but I would check overstock.com  They were giving away temperpedics last week.

My mom hates her tempurpedic... but i've also heard others say they love them.

We bought a new queen mattress from Sleepy's in August and I am in LOVE w/ it. It's a Sealy Posturepedic Harbor House w/ pillowtop. I think the MSRP was around 1800 but of course the salesman was able to "make a deal." So we got the mattress, split box spring, mattress cover, frame, delivery, setup and taxes and everything came to around 1300 I think. Definitely worth it.

Sam's Club has great mattresses... and check out Macy's when they have their sales.

Remind me tonight and I'll find out what brand my pillowtop is.  7 years later and it feels like it's brand new.

Ours is Serta Perfect Sleeper cushion firm pillowtop. I thought that FI and I were going to have a hard time agreeing on a mattress since he likes a really firm bed, but we both LOVE it.

As for stores, I personally had a horrific experience at Sleepys (think sleazy used car salesman who wouldn't let us leave the store), and I can't stand that they don't post their actual prices on a lot of the models and magically reduce the price to whatever you said you want to pay. But, I think that depends on which location you go to. We found the sale prices at Macy's to be best and got good service there; if you use your Macy's card you get an extra % off (10% maybe?) and you can pay it out over a year interest free.

A friend of a friend works for Sleepy's corporate and said that the salesmen have 3 "levels" of price negotiations or something... like they can really go a lot lower than the list price depending on how much the customer is willing to spend. Yes this is sneaky but I think if the customer is aware of this then the ball is in their court.

We have a Pillowtop Serta Perfect Sleeper.  Whatever you do, in the store....sit on the very edge corner of the mattress.  Cheapo ones don't have a metal banded frame, and you will sink all the way down.  The better quality ones, have the same support all the way up to the wee edges of the mattress.

We have a Simmons Beauty Rest pillow top with memory foam in the pillow top.

Love it. Can't rave enough.  It is the matress where he moves and I don't feel it and vice versa.  I want to say it was over $2K but worth every penny in my mind.

Think about it, you keep a mattress longer than a TV...spend the money and get what you want!

Diddo!  And sit down really hard on the edges (literally flop down with all your weight) and see what noises it makes.  The matress springs should not "crunch" or make any real sound on a better mattress.

The cheapo ones will make crunching sounds on the edges.

we have a Dormia memory foam mattress (like a Temper-pedic, only cheaper).  Hubby and I love it!  I had one in my parents house before we got married, so I knew I wanted the same one when we were bed shopping for our the house.  Sleepy's carries them.  I definitely recommend going there and trying out a few.

i can't rec a specific mattress, but I can tell you that i HATE SLEEPYS and will never buy from them again.  we got a warranty on our mattress and box spring, only to be told later that it would cost 100 to deliver HALF of our boxspring!!!!!

Thanks guys, and wow Dana! I was lucky with my sleepy's I walked in told them to go away and they let me be (this was a 5 years ago). I was going to try macys and costco, not a big fan of memory foam, unless I can try it, it freaks me out lol. Thanks again

Costco is great for mattresses- we have a Vera Wang from Fortunoff before they went out of bussines- I think it's by Serta?

Sleepy's is overpriced.  We bought from Rockaway bedding, but sleepy's has since taken over all the stores.  Try to find economy mattress stores that deal in volume.  You get the same mattress....the only difference is the high mark-up that sleepy's applies.

User, I was doing some research and was going to go to a bunch of stores to "try them" then find the best price and such.  I'm really just looking to not jump on a bunch of mattresses that everyone else jumped on a million times lol :)
