What does everyone do?

This is a kind of getting to know you but I thought it might be intersting if we said what we do for a job/career and/or if you're in school, what you hope to do.  Everyone mentions work/school at one point or another.  I know now that I'm back in school I love hearing people who are in my future field that love it.  Also, I know some people are trying to figure out what's next in their professional life so maybe this will inspire someone and help them figure out what they really want for a career.  Someone telling me about someone else who is an Occupational Therapist is what sparked my going back to school.

I'll start-  I am a Financial Analyst and have been for 2.5+ years since leaving school.  I'm not in investments like people always seem to think...I work for a company and analyze their sales, inventories, labor costs, etc.  Never have loved this job.  These days my job is more accounting actually which I hate.  I'm a little too social and active for this job to fulfill me (I look at a computer all day and hardly interact with anyone).  Sooo I'm going back to school for Occupational Therapy.  Have to do some pre-reqs first because I was an Econ major and have no natural sciences classes haha.  It'll be a 4-5 year process but totally worth it.

  • During the day I work in the Insurance Industry as a Customer Service Rep and a Technical Service Rep. I work specifically with home/auto insurance, personal lines. This is a job just until we get our debt paid off/the wedding paid off and then I won't have to work it anymore.

My career is the business FI and I own in the area of Intellectual Marketting and Leadership Development, and I LOVE it!
  • I work in a hotel in Philadelphia as a Catering Sales Manager. I plan Weddings, Social Events and Corporate Events. It's a lot of fun and I enjoy it!!!

  • Research Technician studying a specific cancer that mainly affects asian populations.  It's not bad but I want to go back to school to be a PA.  I was a pre-veterinary major in undergrad so I have the majority of the pre-reqs to do this.... I just need human anatomy ;)
  • I have 2 jobs. My FT job is with a medical device company, and I work in the chemical department. I hate this company but the dept I work in now is pretty cool. I plan to only be here long enough to pay for the wedding.

My other job is, as many of you know, on a dairy farm! I work there 4 weekday afternoons and then also sat am starting at 3:30am! This is my hobby, my job and my career. I have a degree in bio (animal sci) and my goal is to get into the dairy industry in one way or another. I treat the cows as coworkers and friends, and they treat me as just another member of the herd. Its fun to see who loves you and who hates you, just like any other job, except my coworkers are 1300lbs and I have to squeeze their boobies.
  • i am a software engineer. i went to school for computer science, and minored in computer engineering (but they called it 'digital systems design' because i wasn't in the engineering school) and all my engineering friends made fun of me because i wasn't a real engineer. but my job title says i am! i write custom software for mobile devices (cellphones).
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • I'm a graphic designer working on a team for a larger company.

Right now I'm a contractor, but I just recently interviewed for an internal position, and I've got another interview today for a different internal position.

I love the company and I love what I do.

  • I'm a wedding and portrait photographer. I went to college to be a teacher, yeah that lasted one year before I transferred schools and changed my major to photography. :) I quickly realized that spending all day with those little boogers was not for me..lol.
  • I started off as a nurse for 10 years mostly in geriatrics until one day I woke up and noticed that I had no more empathy for my patients and families (mostly the families that never come but once a year and complain). I was tired of working short all the time and noticing management did not care. So, I have always had a degree in business administration and decided to put it to work with some temporary staffing. Well I worked about a year at a company before it closed in shipping and receiving. I was looking for another job when the company I am with now met me and hired me straight on. So now I am a logistic planner (my dream job) with a fortune 500 company. They have sent me back to school to get my BS in Industrial distribution and logistics....

  • Right now I am a youth counselor teaching foster youth about to age out of the system Life Skills (communication, relationships, self care, work & study etc..- stuff parents are supposed to teach you as my boss says) and helping them decide what they want to do after High School. Its fun, and interesting at times, but, I am looking for a Social Studies teaching job and going back to school for a cross endorsement in Special Education.
  • I currently work as the Exec. Assistant to the Director General of the Center for Immunization and Respiratory Infectious Diseases for the Fed. Gov. It's a neat gig but I look forward to the day where the only emails and work I need to worry about are my own :P

I used to be an events assistant at a local college and THAT was awesome. I used run large scale events for students/staff, as well as to do the graphic design work for our promo materials and website. It was my creative outlet and it was lots of fun; too bad the pay sucked and I had zero benefits. I make 3 times as much now if you add in all my benefits.

I'm also working towards my business admin diploma so I take a couple courses per semester (you know, In my "spare" time lol).

  • I am a research coordinator for pediatric kidney disease. It's a decent job but it can be depressing at times. Luckily most of the kids I work with aren't that sick, relatively speaking.  I have been here for over 4 year and I really like the people I work with.

Eventually I want to get back into social research but I plan on staying at this job for at least another 18 months.

I am the Director of Marketing and Game Operations for an AHL hockey team.  If you're reading this and you're from CT...you probably know that our company isn't doing so well financially and I may be looking for another job soon!  My degree is in sports marketing and I love it everything about working in sports!  I also coach and judge gymnastics on the side.  I coached a high school team for about 8 years until I got this gig then it proved to be too much to juggle since gymnastics and hockey are the same season.
  • I'm a full time graduate student working on my PhD in Chemical Engineering.  I really like all of the classes I've taken and being a TA (teaching assistant) but most of the time I don't like my research. Of course, now that I'm just over halfway done, they want me to stop taking and teaching classes and focus on the research, which is the only part I don't like! I'm just trying to get through the next two and a half years and hopefully become a teaching professor and never do research again, lol!

  • Wow, we are diverse! It's nice to see other fellow scientists too! Hello!

I'm currently working on a PhD in neurobiology. Our lab studies the involvement of a novel protein in the pathology of Alzheimer's disease. In general, I like it. Obviously reasearch has it's good days and it's bad days. I use the fruit fly brain to model Alzheimer's disease so that's pretty cool. I'm getting close to the end- I"ll try to finish early next year.

  • I have two jobs-
I am the Administrative Assistant on operations side for a major timeshare company: Since I work for the most complicated property owned by the company I travel atleast once every two months when new systems come about or major changes after we launch them here at our resort so I can assist other resorts in the process. When I am at my home resort I deal with payroll, hr, accounting, ap, ar, guests, green initiaves, stuff like that-this is the full time job
My second job is which I love is working as a professional dancer for a dance company..I also coach dancing but that is private lessons only so those two together are a full time job as well.

  • I am a registered nurse on a cardiac floor and I love it.  I have been there a little over 2 years, I have a great manager and co-workers which makes the job even better.

I recently switched to 12 hour shifts to have more days off as FI's side job is wedding videography and he is looking into purchasing a photobooth for rentals and I can help with that.

Though my schedule can get crazy I look forward to going to 24hours (benefits cost the same and you only work 2 days a week!) to help FI as his side business/ our family grows.
  • I am an infrequent visitor to the month board.

I am a liasion manufacturing engineer in aviation. I work non-conformance and what is referred to as ship side support .I like my job it is challenging. I am hoping to move out to the flightline and predelivery before to long adn work on my A&P Certification and work towards a Leadership MBA and/or Engineering Masters.

I'm a Masters level Social Worker specializing in mental health. At my current job, I do intake assessments for adults/children and do diagnosing of mental illnesses. At my first job I did group therapy in a partial hospitalization program for people with depression/bipolar/schizophrenia/substance abuse. Eventually, I think I want to do private practice.

  • I'm a tour guide.  It's a part time gig, but it's a lot of fun.  I've got a BA in Theatre which, of course, has me lined up with a great full time job...

Recently I started back into school to get some prereqs done for Med Shool.  It's always been my dream to be a dr. (I just had to get there a little bit of a different route), and hopefully I'll be accepted into a med school in about a year.

    Planning Bio

  • I'm an RN, working nights in the ICU. It can be very hard work, but sometimes very rewarding. Sometimes just frustrating, tho. I enjoy working through complicated problems (the sicker they are, the better I like 'em- which sounds horrible, I know), and I like to do hands-on & active stuff, so in a lot of ways it's a very good fit for me. I just really don't like the paperwork, the administration that just has *no clue* what the reality is, and working nights (killing me by inches). I'm hoping to find a day shift gig in the fall, and would like to go to 2 shifts a week (we do 12hr shifts) when we have a kiddo.

Before I was an RN, I did many years of retail management as well as several years of being an office manager/sales analyst/exec admin for different kinds of companies (investment banking firm, candy company, office supply company, respectively). Office work was NOT for me, so I know I do not want to work in healthcare administration.

  • Wow you all have very interesting jobs!  I am an Administrative Assistant/Purchasing Specialist/inventory Manager/Human Resources Coordinator for the Dept of Health for my homestate for the Preparedness and Response Branch. Yeah a mouthful for one person. I am with Volleygurl0306, I spend most of my day in front of a computer looking at two monitors at a time. If it's not the monitors, its paperwork, or talking with vendors or dealing with my colleagues purchasing issues. Love it all day long, work with a great group of people. Put school and training on hold until after the wedding. Going to school for Accounting and Bookkeeping certifications, AA in Human Resources Management and starting my BA in Business Administration. On top of FEMA training for work.

Also help my FI run his two businesses, janitorial service and he owns two apartment complexes. Assist with the office paperwork, talk with the tenants, receive payments from our vendors for janitorial services and collect rent. Don't think I know what a day off is lol  But I love being this busy though :)

I like reading about what everyone does! :)

I work in Healthcare Information Systems for Yale. I am supporting the implementation of their new electronic medical record system, Epic, at Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale School of Medicine, two other hospitals, and physician offices. In June it will be 5 years that I have worked in this field, having started two weeks after I graduated college. Time flies!

  • I am a full time law student and will be graduating in May. I'm working two part time jobs right now, and I have an internship as well. I am the Legal Intern for the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, which is the part of the Bar Association that helps fund legal non-profits all over MA. I also am an Administrative Assistant for a solo practioner. My internship is with a law firm specializing in Immigration. I am hoping to find a job in immigration or real estate, but with the job market they way it is I will take anything I can find. :-) Sadly work and the wedding will have to take a back seat for a while until I take the bar exam at the end of July.
  • I am a Certified Nursing Assistant on a Medical Surgical floor and I love it.  We are a very busy floor with hips and knees, from cancer patients to abd surgerys.   I was going to school 8 years ago for Early Childhood Education but realized I wanted to enjoy my own kids at home and the politics of teaching are not what they use to be!  I have been a CNA for 10 years started in Nursing Homes and went to hospitals (my first was a cardiac floor, great stuff there!).  I will know by Easter if I get into school for my RN.  If I do I will start a couple weeks before the wedding!  I can't wait, I love what I do and wouldn't change it!  One the reasons I love the field is because of the diversity, work from Peds to ER, flight nurse to Supervisor, from newborns to 100yr olds!
  • i am a RN, have been for about 10 years. My background is mental health, primarily geriatric. I have a passion for alzheimer's research as my dad passed away from dementia 1.5 years ago. Currently, I work as a supervisor for our provincial home care agency - with about 40 case managers who directly report to me. I have thought about going back to school to be a lawyer but finances have stopped me so far.
  • Im a Teacher full time and i work part time for american express on weekends  and currently in law school pt
