WR: I hate...

List something about weddings you hate or dislike. Something that makes your blood boil.

Lately, it's been brides wanting to get their bms $2 flip flops for the reception and calling it a gift. I've been to Old Navy. Those flip flops are awful and yes, cheap. Plus, c'mon brides....everyone owns at least one pair of flip flops in their closet. Tell your bms to bring them.

Re: WR: I hate...

  • Meg, you and me, eye to eye on this whole thread.

I think in general, I hate that people get obsessed over details that they don't actually care about. I mean hey, I read the wedding blogs too, and I many times salivated over absolutely amazing little touches that would have been time-consuming and/or expensive. But when it came down to it, I realized that those things weren't actually important to me, and I let it go. I think a lot of questions and stress come from girls who don't realize that in their heart of hearts, they don't care about some of the things that the wedding industry has shown us look cool, and instead of just not doing those things, they freak out over "OMG how can I make super unique escort cards?!?!?!!!?!!????"
  • Omg, Emily, the week before my wedding we realized we'd forgotten to do escort cards (I still don't know how we missed that-I'm assuming my sisters' dress drama took precedence) and the venue wanted them in x amount of days in advanced along with anything else we were supplying. I pretty much had 2 days. We didn't have time to print them professionally, but since we assigned tables, we obviously needed them.

My mom completely flipped out when she found out that I DIY-d them by hand at the last minute (My handwriting isn't the greatest, but we also didn't realize we used all of our printer ink on the invites, and it was the best I could come up with).

I actually said to her "Can you honestly even remember what the escort cards looked like at any wedding you've ever been to? Plus,we worked our butts off to provide everybody with a damn good reception ... if people are really going to judge my entire wedding for my inferior escort cards, then these are people that I don't need in my life". And then I proceeded to rattle off all of these people on the guest list asking her "Do you really think this person will care? Do you think this person's going to spend more than 5 seconds looking at this? Can you really see this person being so offended by this that they actually leave? No? Well, then it's fine!".

I think a very huge part of my "zen" attitude with everything was I pretty much just kept asking myself "In 20 years is this really going to matter?". Pretty much except for the food and music, 90% of the time, my answer was "no".
