Insanity Workout

The DVDs will be delievered today.. I'm excited and scared - I heard that this workout is 60 days of NO JOKE. I got this instead of the P90X because I HATE working with weights and other equipment. Wish me luck!

I really need to get the extra weight off before we start altering my dress.

Anyone else tried it?

I did the test and the first dvd, and it was not for me.
I was exhausted during the "warm up".  That being said, if you stick with it, it will defintely work.  I'm just not that in shape to begin with.  It's geared toward people that are already somewhat in shape.
    Good luck!!!

I saw this on tv, and I really want to try it.  Lets us know how you like it.  I have been doing a bootcamp and have lost alot of weight, but now I am looking to tone and sculpt.

Hi all! I'm over from the Lansing board, since our board has like one post a week/month. BORING! lol.

Anywho, I just thought I'd add my two cents on this from a kinesiology stand point.

I have P90X and I love it! However, I do not do the plyometrics, or really any of the cardio DVD's b/c, as an exercise physiologist, I do not agree with many of the moves Tony has you do. It's very hard on your joints. I do not believe that Tony has any background in Kinesiology, and that explains a lot.

(to be clear I'm training for a 1/2 marathon so I do running and cross training as my cardio)

I've heard that the Insanity video is very much like the plyometrics and other cardio videos of P90X. So, I would just urge you to procede with caution, and if you feel any pain whatsoever in your knees, ankles, or hips, please stop.

Also, I know you said you dislike weight lifting, but it's really a good addition to any weight loss program. Strength training actually helps strengthen your bones too (which is important for women especially, and those with a family history of osteoporosis). Also, cardio burns calories NOW, whereas strength training helps to increase your metabolism and burn more calories throughout the rest of the day.

Just something to think about. I will get down from my soap box now. lol. Whatever you do, just have fun!

Hmm. Well - I have my degree in Kinese as well - but I'm also a dancer.. and so far I love it. I did the test and the first DVD - plyometrics cario.. but I can see how it could be VERY easy to injure yourself if you don't use proper form.

I am very careful - just because I know my body really well and have danced most my life - not to mention - I have a movement science degree and work in my field.

I have thought about doing P90x after this.. but beyond 5 or 10lb weights - I'm not interested in the amount of bulk I would get in the top of my shoulders.. I have those broad football shoulders. And it's not the best way to strengthen as a dancer.. in fact - using your own body weight (like the videos use) is the best way for dancers.

But I totally respect your opinion  - I'm sure you know your body like I know mine.

As for an update - that ISH is INTENSE!!! It's ALL cardio - something that I have clearly been lacking in my life even though I take dance class twice a week. I did much better than the FI - but I could feel myself getting EXTREMELY tired by the 3rep of the actual exercises. the warm-up is incredibly intense.

I think that it's something you REALLY have to commit to or else your inner thoughts will tell you to quit - I just told mine to shut up this morning.. Sealed

See, well you're well educated on it then. That's all that I was meaning to say. Just pay attention to your body. For me, the jumping around was just not good for my knees or hips, but bad joints run in my family. You know your body better than anyone, and I've never tried Insanity, just the P90X.

    Good luck!

P.S. You're a Kines grad too?!! Where'd you go? What kind of field are you working in now?

After working 3 years, I'm not going back to an accelerated second degree nursing program.

I went to Michigan for undergrad.. I moved back to MI and work in one of the centers linked with the (now) School of Kinesiology at U of M. I'm more into wellness than fitness now though. I got a Masters in Sociology - so I fit more in the realm of social health (my boss hates the term - public health).

I did want to go into nursing though... maybe one day I'll be an RN.

Thanks for all the wellwishes.. Today was day 3 and my entire body feels like it just had the hardest workout of it's life. I really should have left my body at home this morning. But the pain feels so good! And I can see physical changes already - just because I'm standing straighter and activating my tummy more. YES! Wedding body here I come!

Yeah - I just made it through day 8. I feel incredible. I taught a dance class last wednesday and everyone raved at how GREAT it was. They said I worked them hard - but the loved it. I haven't had this much energy since high school. I took two dance classes on saturday - after my morning workout. Everyone raved at how good my body looked. I've only lost 1.5 lbs - but I have lost 2-3 inches in various places (all places I needed to lose - my natural waist, my arms, my love handles, etc).

Let me know how it works for you.
