invitation order

I always figured everyone was just really ahead of their game, in terms of comparing my wedding planning progess to everyone elses... but now I'm starting to worry that I'm getting behind! So first concern, around when should I be ordering the invitations?

Have you picked them out yet?  Do you know how long they take to come in?

If you haven't picked them yet, I'd start immediately!  It took me a few weeks of searching to settle on the one we love.  I know which ones I want and they come in pretty fast, so I plan to order at 4 months out.  That gives me a month for them to come in, then a month to address them.  I want to send them out at 8 weeks.  If you are planning to have them calligraphied, that takes a while too I think.

    Good luck!

I started mine about five months out.  We had a custom design that we went back and forth on a few times.  We approved the design about a three and a half months out and we had them in our hands about three months out.

I think I ordered mine in January for my May wedding.  I ordered them online and I think they took about 3 weeks to come in and I had them out 2 months ahead of time.

I think it really depends on where you get them.  I ordered mine at the beginning of February for my June wedding.....from the Paper Store and the maker was Birchcraft (a local supplier), which has a super fast turn around (I had them in two weeks from my order date).  Invitation stores have SO MANY books to look through...it takes more than one trip to pick the perfect one...at least it did for me!  Like PP said, you have to take into account the time to address them all...not to mention assembling them.  Which isn't hard, but it's time consuming!  What does the knot checklist say?  I used that like it was the Bible!!  haha

I'm an August wedding like you -- and also often feel like everyone else is way ahead of me with wedding plans!  Eek!

Re: invitations -- I think we're okay, but it's definitely approacing time to order.  We haven't ordered ours yet but we've been looking for a few weeks now and have a good sense of what we want (both design and price-wise).  My thinking has been, if we order by mid-April, alloting a month for arrival the'll arrive by mid-May.  We have lots of OOT-ers so we want ours out by 2nd week of June at the latest, so that leaves a month for calligraphy/addressing.

    Hope this helps!

I think it also depends on the 'type' of invitation you're looking at.  Letterpress for example, may take an additional few weeks for designing/approval/printing, but digital may only take a week or so tops.

Course, like pp suggested, assembly can take a long time too!!  Like pocketfolds will take the most time I feel like.

... can you committ a solid amount of time to creating your invitations?  If not, you could always pay a little xtra and have someone do it for you. :)
