...actually had a full sermon during their wedding ceremony? altar call to salvation? or anointing of oil?

My FI and I want our wedding to be a testament to our union, what we've been through and how God has restored us and brought us together. How fitting is it to want our loved ones brought to salvation as we are brought together in matrimony?

Any suggestions?

We're doing a Covenant Ceremony, so there will be a "mini" sermon about how Christian marriage is a Covenant with God, not a contract with the State. Also, one of my pastors is doing a Gospel presentation. We're not doing an altar call during the wedding, but all the pastors involved, and our entire wedding party will be available after the ceremony to talk with people who may have questions, and Pastor G will make that known during the presentation.
We both have unsaved friends and family members who will be at the wedding, and we don't want to miss an opportunity to share the Truth with them, and how our relationship with each other wouldn't even exist without Christ.

I've never been to a wedding that didn't have readings and a sermon. Pretty sure even my sister, who isn't super-religious, had readings and a sermon.

We chose the Bible passages for the OT, epistle, and NT readings. They were all quite short, compared to a Sunday morning passage. The pastor wrote a beautiful sermon incorporating our readings, the hymns we chose, and our relationship (and an awesome tandem bike analogy!) to emphasize the importance of making Christ is the center of a marriage. This was also on the shorter side. The whole thing was maybe 25 minutes.

It's the standard Lutheran ceremony, and I think it's the perfect way to celebrate the couple, but still hold Christ at the center and recogize the work God does to unite them.

My future MIL suggested that FI and I have communion at our ceremony. We're Baptist, so that's not like a standard tradition or anything, but I'm considering it! I don't think I'll do a full-blown sermon, but there will be readings, many prayers, and Christian music throughout.

There was a thread a week or 2 ago about something similar I recommend you check out.

I am all for putting your faith in your ceremony and wedding day. Share meaningful scripture, pray, music worship songs, a sermon, whatever is meaningful to you. However, I am personally not really a fan of alter calls at a wedding. It seems sort of out of place to me. Would the annointing of oil be just between the 2 of you? That could be very meaningful.

We had congregational hymn singing, a (short, 7 min.) sermon, scripture readings, a few prayers, benediction, and a prayer over the meal. FWIW, our ceremony was outside, not in a church. Due to this, we tried to incorporate our faith even more into the ceremony. Good luck : )

I have been to weddings with full sermons that lasted anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. I personally believe that full sermons are overload for a wedding. I grow extremely restless and I'll admit, I stop paying attention to the ceremony after so long.

I think short, sweet, to the point sermons are wonderful however, especially if they are directed towards the bride and groom. When my cousin got married, they had a short sermon that mainly focused on divorce. Not appropriate.

I don't really care for altar calls at weddings, mainly because I feel it lacks focus of the marriage.

I think if you guys want to do the whole thing...sermon with altar call...you definitely should. It may be different but if it's you guys that is what is important.

Thank you guys soooooooo much. I'm gonna take advice from all of you!!! I guess the 'sermonette' will last 30 mins (preacher is young and not long-winded), no anointing of oil, but will have communion. Thank you so much for your input...I really appreciate it!!!
