Cost of Band vs Cost of DJ

For a good band that will emcee the event, what I am I looking at in Dallas?  Same questions about a DJ.  I would like to save money by going with a DJ, but we need them to be able to cue into speeches, dances, etc.

This is an international board.. You will get better responses on your local board.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

A DJ is more likely than a band to be good at the emcee role. That being said, local board.

Come and join us on the DFW board.  We'd love to help.  I loved my DJ Glenn Roush, he was one of my favorite vendors.  Bands in Dallas start around $3K and go up--my DJ was half that and ran my whole reception flawlessly.

I'm using DJ connection. They have unlimited time slots and they are running the show at the reception. They are normally $1400 and they bring lighting too!

My DJ was Marshall Argovitz, and I loved him... he MC'd the whole reception, but didn't have lighting.  He was $850.  Good luck!

i opted for the DJ to save $$, but a band can do just as good as a DJ at being an MC for the evening. for good bands in dallas, i'd look at limelight, emerald city band, etc. i agree with stephie on the price difference though

the least expensive band i found was $2500 - i just booked my dj for $500 (presley miller).  i found another dj - phil productions for $630. both bring their own equipment (no lighting) and will emcee the reception. if you're looking to save money, i'd definitely go with a dj.

I am helping a friend plan her wedding in August and she shopped a few dj's but ended up going with my recommendation who I have recommended before... DJ Matt with www.djsofdallas.com   She booked him for $650 with full sound and lighting! He has worked with several other knotties as well.

If you need any other vendor help make sure you post up on here. I have helped all of my friends with their weddings and have gotten endless support and answers on this site. Good luck!
