Re: How to curl strait hair?

  • A curling iron! I know that sounds sarcastic, but seriously curling irons do the trick. My hair is naturally wavy but gross in between wavy, and thick and poofy. I straighten my hair first so its not at thick after blow drying it and then take it in sections and spiral curl it with the curling iron. Depending on what size curls you want the smaller the barrel the smaller/tighter the curls. The bigger the barrel the bigger/looser the curls. I use a 3/4 inch one and it does it perfectly. Just remember to take small sections otherwise the curls dont come out right.
  • I would also add to use mousse!  Plenty of product in your hair will not only help shield it from the heat, but it will also hold a style much better than 'naked' hair.  Spray, mousse, leave-in conditioner... they are all your friends.
  • try using a straightening iron to do the curling..

put it toward the top of your head...turn the barrel like 90 degrees..and then very slowly run it down your hair..keeping it in the 90 degree position...
  • I agree with lwogsland - curling your hair with a good quality flat iron will help the curls to hold much longer than a curling iron, not sure why this is exactly but that is what the stylist did for my cousin's wedding (she was just married over the weekend in ATL and her pin straight hair held up amazingly well even in the humidity).

Another option is a curling rod....one of the bridesmaids had this at my cousin's wedding and it created a very natural looking lasting curl.  Let me see if I can find out the real name for it....ok it was made by Jose Eber, you can find it on amazon for under $40 - I think she said she paid $90 for hers at a mall kiosk...the scary part about using this device is that you have to wear a thermal glove to protect your hand - youwza!

    Good luck!

  • I have very straight hair.  I have learned to use salon products on my hair when I want to style it, the Walmart/Target stuff just doesn't hold the curls.
dont make ur password so easy. gbck2CA2 hahahaha
  • The best tip for curling straight hair is to use a hot tool ( curling iron or flat iron ) and spray each strand with a hair spray before and after you curl each piece. A flat iron will create a looser curl, as will the size of the section. If the section of hair is too big, it will fall flat.
I don't mind growing old, as long as I'm growing old with you. (:
