Using Moms dress

I was thinking of using part of my moms wedding dress (part of the sleeve, which is lace and beaded part) to be wrapped around my flower bouquet. Has anyone else done this, or used their mothers dress in any way for their wedding day?

Re: Using Moms dress

  • I havent been married yet, but i think its a wonderful idea!! it brings that "something old" into play for the wedding day and it will be a nice sentiment for you and your mom to share!!

  • I'm doing this!!! My parents got married in the early 80s and my Mom wore a dress with a lacy "turtle neck" and full sleeves (TOO HOT!!! We are getting married on their anniversary 7/31), my mom was a size 2 when they got married (I'm more of an 8) and the style really isn't mine, plus she doesn't want to pat with her dress, I can't blame her, I'm sure I'll be totally possesive over mine as well. She did wear this totally absurd hat (my fathers idea. Mom looks "hot" in hats) and she always regretted the hat, but it worked in my favor, the hat was a basic white hat base deal covered in gorgeous (hand embroidered with pearls) ivory silk schiffon. She let me deconstruct the hat and use the covering part as the base to wrap my bouquet with- its perfect!!! So thats part of my something old, Dad is letting me wear Grandpa's pinkie ring on my thumb for the ceremony since he was my favorite grandpa, and Daddy and I are super super close. this way i'll have a little bit of both of my parents with me for the ceremony (FMIL and FFIL are both contributing too! I'll have a little bit of the whole family- I think its my favorite part, I've never hasd a big family and my FILs have a HUGE fam, I'm so excited to marry my honey bunny and spend out lives together!!!) Good luck!!!! It sounds like you have your head on straight about whats important!!!!!!
  • My friend did this for her wedding. The bouquet looked beautiful w/ the lace & it was a nice way to include her mom's dress (her mom wanted her to wear it-but the style was really dated & she wanted her own).
  • I'm using a lace applique from my mom's detachable train to wrap around my bouquet and I am really excited about it (my sister is jealous she didn't think of it for her wedding). I think my mom was really touched.  It's nice that it's from the train which detached, so I don't have to take apart the whole dress. Since I'm only having my sisters as bridesmaids, I am even thinking about taking a couple of the appliques off for theirs as well.

You could also work some of the lace into your veil or some fabric into a ring bearer pillow.
