Childhood Toys

I noticed in Walmart, there were throwback toys (brandnew) that I had when I was young. It was the exact same coloring and in the old packaging which I thought was so cool. Remember the orange tv thing that you turned the yellow dial and pictures of kids playing rolled across the screen?

Anyway, what toys were you obsessed with as a kid?

Mine: American Girl Dolls, Fisher Price peoples and their assorted houses, Playmobile (particularly the dollhouse, the circus and the castle), my pink Skip-it, anything classroom related to play school house with...

Ironically, I really disliked Babie I never played with her. Double ironically, when my MoH made me play Barbies with her, I only agreed if I got to be wedding day Midge.

Did you also threaten physical violence on any one who reset your skip it? 'Cause I did!
  • We didn't really have many toys when I was a kid.  My favorite was Lite-bright.  My cousin had some trolls that I loved too.  Oh and then there were little green army men.  Those were awesome.

    I also really disliked Barbie.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Legos.  I had all the cool ones and even had some special ones we got when we went to Lego Land.
  • Oooh yeah, Lego for sure.
  • Baby Alive, Barbie and I had the townhouse, jacuzzi, and car. Oh and I had the Barbie head where you could make her hair long then push a button and it was short again. I'll think of more I'm sure.

  • Legos were and always will be awesome, Anna. I always get Mike legos for Christmas!

Did any one play with Quints or Poly Pocket? I did. I don't know why I had such an affinity for really small babies.

  • Knex
     Pretty Pretty Princess board game
     Teddy Ruxbin(?)
     Atari
     my Barbie Lamborgini

I roller skated, participated in sports, all kinds of physical stuff, but I could never operate a skip it, lol.

  • I never had a Lite Brite.  I had three younger sisters and my mom was always afraid whoever was the youngest at the time would choke on the little lite bulbs.  We couldn't use Barbie shoes or accessories, either, lol.

We had a shiitton of Barbies, though.  We'd play for hours.  I loved My Little Ponies and... what were those little people?  You know, they were just little colored pegs with heads on them.  I had a house and stuff for them, too.

I also had Keepers - those animals you could unlock with a key and you'd open them up and they had a little buddy inside.  My favorite was Princess Swan.

I used to play Super Nintendo til my hands went numb.

I had a Skip It too, but it got ruined because we'd use it on the gravel.  Damn farms :)

I also had My Little Ponies, Popples, Puffalumps, Cabbage Patch Kids, Pound Puppies, Transformers, and these fugly rabbits that had long ears with wire in them.

  • We had flexi-dolls. They had wires in them so they were bendable.

One year my siser and I were playing in th closet and we found them, a red head for my sister and a blonde for me (they had no brunettes) and they had their own little car. Well mom had bought them the year before and forgot they were in there. So we had Christmas at Easter.

  • Did anyone ever watch Ren and Stimpy?

They used to have commercials for fake toys. Well, they had one for a log as a toy.
    "It's log; it's log. It's big; it's heavy; it's wood. It's log ;it's log. It's better than bad. It's good!"

Anyway, I somehow convinced my parents to give me a firelog for a toy. I painted it, and hammered lots of nails into it. It was awesome. Neon orange and pink. It was my favorite toy ever. I came home one day, and my parents had thrown my log away. I cried the whole day.

That sounds dirty.  What is it?

  • The wooden clock, the telephone, wooden playskool people, Raggedy Ann and Andy, a stuffed rabbit (I still have, in sad, sad shape) called Poor Baby, a sink and counter thing my dad crafted for me out of wood, play doh, romper stompers, the thing with the lemon on the end you put on your ankle and jumped over it (I wasn't very good at it). I played with a generic Barbie and a real Barbie sometimes, but I also played with matchbox/hotwheels cars when baby bro did. Also spirograph.
My friend had the donny and marie dolls, and she had a makeup/hairstyle head Barbie. I was too fat for a sit n spin or big wheel.
Oh, and I had a baton. And an imaginary friend. He got into a LOT of trouble.

    Oh, that's awesome.

    Powdered . . . toast... MAN!
    image

  • Oh, trolls.  I collected them.  But I had to keep them boxed up because my cat liked to kill them.

I played with Polly Pockets!  The big thing at my school was Puppy in my Pocket.  They were little bitty dog figures that came with cards about the breed and the dog's name and info about it.

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
  • I had a pink skip-it too. And a pogo stick that I was awesome at.

    My favorites were my:

    TMNT action figures

Polly Pockets & Mad Max sets

    Lite-Brite

Bear Bear (stuffed animal my mom gave me on my first Christmas, I still have him)

Jumanji game. My step-sis and I took the playing cards and pretended what we read was actually happening. Really, I made up games more as a kid than played with toys. Lava Monster, Zombie/Vampire Attack, Candy World, we had a hundred of them.

  • Does anyone remember the Troll board game? I looooved that game.

I had a glow worm when I was little. And a teddy bear that sang to me. His name is Sherman.

  • Did anyone else have one of those all fabric checkered baby dolls?  Mine was pink, and I called her Baby Doll (or, dady doll as a real little kid) and I took her EVERYWHERE and slept with her every night til I was probably 16 and she was reduced to a rag.  I still have her.

They also made boy ones that were blue.  And they had a little yellow tuft of hair poking out of the hat at the top, made of a few pieces of yarn.

  • Ours was not a Barbie household.

My sister and I were pretty big on American Girls (she had Felicity, I had Samantha), and we and our brothers also played with Playmobil and Legos a lot as our main toys. We also spent a lot of time pretending things outside.

I looove those! I had their van that shot pizza discs out of the top, it was awesome. I also loved:
    Ghostbuster action figures/fire house/ car.
    Barbies
    My Little Ponies
    NKOTB dolls, don't hate.
Brenda, Brandon and Dylan 90210 dolls (what?)
Legos, like hardcore loved legos, I had so many it was nuts.
    Cabbage Patch Dolls
Glo Worms, though they actually creep me out now.

    Photobucket
  • I never had an American Girl doll but I read a lot of the books.  Felicity was by far my absolute favorite.

  • Damn, Jas, now I have the log song in my head.

We had the Ren & Stimpy video game and ma did my brother and I get pissed off every time we lost. That and Sonic are the reasons I don't game. I get violent.
  • omg Teddy Ruxpin! "surf surf, surfin Grundo!" I had the airship. Be jealous.

OH. And what were those stuffed animals you would by and they would come with litters inside them? If you got a dog with three puppies you were uncool, but if you were really lucky you got 7 babies in the belly of the animal. I always wanted my mom to buy me those.
