  • What's a B list?

And I wasn't trying to work the gift aspect, I really just wanted to hang out with people I would love to buy dinner for, but haven't got the space at our venue.

Then invite them to dinner sometime. Why does it have to be your wedding you invite them to in order to get to know them better? Honestly you won't have a second to yourself during the reception so it's not like you'll get a real chance to sit down and chat with them.

Just invite them out or to your house for dinner sometime.

[QUOTE]How can I politely invite these people to the dance without inviting them to dinner?
     FYI
    Ceremony - 5:30 PM
    Dinner - 6:30 PM
    First dance - 8:00 PM

Schedules at aweddings are pretty fluid.  So while you might want to start dinner at 6:30, fact is it will be closer to 6:45pm.  While you would hope dinner will only take 'x' tiime, fact is it will take longer  (they always do).

So how would you feel if you were invted to the dance only part, get their on time (I get panic attacks if I'm late) only to find everyone else is eatting dinner?  What do you do?  Just stand and watch?  How awkward.

Please just say no to this and met up with them at a different time.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
