What is your budget???

I know it is a bit taboo but I am just curious. What is your budget for the wedding.

Re: What is your budget???

  • Our budget is $4,000 for 132 guests invited. We are hoping for 100 or less.

  • Our budget is $10k and we have a $5k slush fund to go over. Really, that's just a random number though.
  • Ours is 5k, but we have hit below 3k. :)

  • Ours is technically $10-15k but since we're under budget I checked $5-10k
  • My parents set a budget of $20,000 that they would pay for. It will probably end up being more like $25,000 (and I'll have to pay the extra $5k).

That's awesome and very generous of them! My parents have both gotten promotions in the last year or so. My mom said she'll give me money eventually for the wedding and feels bad we're paying. It's not a big deal to me because there are 5 kids in my family and my older sister is graduating college this year then my younger brother is graduating HS so I know she has other stuff to do.
  • Oh god. All in all we will probably be spending around $25,000. Maybe a bit more. Ugh.

  • It's sickening.  Originally tried for 12k, ending up around 17k and that's still with trying manage costs and cut some things.... makes me want to throw up.

Yeah I always knew they would pay for it, but we never talked about budget until we were engaged. I am very grateful, especially because they were about to renovate their house before we got engaged and have now postponed for a few months. They own my condo I used to live in before I moved in with FI, so they are going to sell that soon. In the end, them paying for the wedding is like "getting rid of me" because they still pay for my food, gas, phone, insurance, and any real necessities. The wedding is the last thing they will have to pay for me, and with the condo being sold, they'll get the renovation running. Then they have my sister's wedding within the next few years (she isn't engaged yet, but practically). Plus, FMIL is graciously paying for the HM. I was very pleasantly surprised, and very grateful!

That's great they have both been promoted!! 5 kids gets expensive I'm sure!! That's sweet that she wants to eventually give you some money. If my parents weren't graciously paying, we probably wouldn't be getting married until a few years down the road. Either that, or half of my savings would be depleated and we wouldn't have a very good down payment.

  • If you take out our photographer and videographer our budget isn't bad at all. We super splurged on those.
  • Our budget is 15k, that doesn't include rings or attire for either of us, because that money is coming from elsewhere. We have 115 on the guest list, hoping for less than 90 attending.

  • We started out with a 10K budget, but bumped it up to 12K. We definitely splurged on our photographer ($3200) and we're having two receptions--one informal one right after the ceremony (inviting 180 ppl), and one "AHR" at our favourite restaurant (inviting 80 ppl). My dress budget is $1500. My parents gave us $8K and FILs paid for our HM (around 4K). We're very greatful to them!

    <div>I noticed that too! Crazy!</div>
  • My dad gave us $15K to start with and we were on budget or actually under budget with about $3K-$4K left over, but then he wanted us to add more people to our guest list. So he offered us more money to cover those extra people. So it is now at $17K...

  • well ours started at about 15k but I keep spending so probably more around 18k for 225 invited guests hoping for 180ish. Thats with me trying to DIY a lot of projects :( why are weddings so expensive!! boo!!

  • FI and I were originall y paying for the wedding ourselves and our budget was $10k.  We definitely splurged on our venue.  Then his parents said they would help out with the catering.  That was cool, until we went fo a tasting an his mom said his parents talked about it and were going to give us $10k! for catering and whatever else we wanted (not including a bar but that's a different story) So it's going to cover the catering that FI really wanted, the tent and probably all of the rest of the reception.  We were totally shocked and grateful, but sheesh, $10,000!

  • Kelsey, I think our photographer was 3-4k, too. If you didn't know about prices before, I think that is one that shocks some people.
  • Our budget is 7k for FI and I and my parents are putting in about 15k.

  • Ours is over 50k, we're extremely fortunate that my parents offered to pay for the entire wedding. We're inviting about 300 people.

  • Our parents gave us a budget of about $55K, which we are SO grateful for, we have about 320 invited guest, I have been very cautious in our spending and are currently looking at under $45K, I have saved huge in a few areas, and have offered to pay for our BPs attire, which for my 6 girls my grandmother is making each dress, which will work out to be under $30 each :) ALSO this includes are HM budget of $8K which will be another huge savings as FI and I don't want to spend more than $5K..

  • Our budget is currently $7k.  It was origninally $10k but we are under a little over $3k so we decided to cut it out entirely.

Abbe - I have plenty of data if you want to do some number crunching... if only I could send it to you.

  • Our budget is pretty flexible. My parents offered us 20K, which I am incredibly grateful for, and FI"s parents are chipping in for the extra people they invited and the rehearsal dinner, so anything over that we have to pay for. Right now for FI and me, we're at about 5K. Our guest list is at 250, and our venue charges for everything by the person, so the less people come, the more money we save :) I sometimes feel so guilty spending all this money on one day.
  • Our budget is $15K and my aunt & uncle are giving us $1,500 towards an upgrade of a package as our wedding gift.

If we have less people RSVP, that number of course that number will go down and we won't spend it on anything else.

<div>Yea...photography was one thing that we did not want to skimp on. Even now, 28 years and a divorce later, my mom is still annoyed at how bad their photographer was so she told us to get who we wanted. We spent WAY WAY WAY more on that than I ever thought we would. It's worth it to me though because after June 30th, besides for each other and our wedding bands, all we'll have left as a reminder of the day is our pictures and video.</div>
  • FI said 9k; I said 10K we will have 11k saved for any little extras.
We splurged on a few things like the photographer and our vintage wedding limo. So we will end up spending about 10,130.... not too bad. :)

  • our budget started with $15,000 but we are now on $21,00 and we are not done with everything so we are hoping not to go over the $25,000 We have also been lucky to have our parents support and FI is blessed with a great job.

Posted by SheilaDancer43[/QUOTE]<div>Yeah honestly we'd probably be getting married after we were done with school if it weren't for FI being in the military. With the hardships my parents went through a few years ago I didn't expect them to pay for anything. I made it clear that we had our wedding budget in savings so they wouldn't feel guilty because they have so many other things to pay for and whatnot
