Have you and your FI discussed what you would like to name your child one day?  What are names you are thinking about?

Discuss away! :-)

Re: Fun Poll: Baby Names

  • Yes we've discussed it.
The only thing we're set on is using my MIL's maiden name as a future son's first name.
    image
  • I don't want any babies.  In fact, I avoided a 4th of July party yesterday because there would be so many kids there.  Ick.
  • well, I no longer have the Fi to discuss this with, but I like Brady Thomas (Thomas is my fathers middle name; and I'd want EmilyAnne Louise, and Skylar Star, or Skylar____ something. I am up for debate when the time comes but I'd would really like to keep Thomas as a middle name and Louise as a middle name.

Have only settled on Athena for a girl's middle name.  FI is a proud Greek man.

  • We have discussed it a number of times but we have a hard time agreeing.  Good thing we have 10 years (give or take a few)

    Boy:  Benjamin James

Mr. Penny and I have a hard time agreeing on names because I like a lot of names that are too waspy for his taste :).  We've agreed on these two, though clearly nothing is set in stone.  There are a few other names (Francesca, Georgina, Noah) that I like, but he's hard to please!

  • Yes. He like old Hebrew names like Ruth (ugh) and Sarah. His favorite name is Keziah (ugh). I really like Amelia and Regan. Thus far we want to use Maynard (a family name on his side) and my last name as middle names for boys. I got him to agree with me on Elijah/Eli, Isaac, Wesley, Rhys and Wyatt, I think. For girls, he agreed with Autumn, Audrey, Felicity, Charlotte and Lydia. I'd like to use my middle name or my grandmother's name for a girl's middle name, too. He wants to make sure our kids have at least one saint's name because he wants to raise our kids Catholic. We have a few years to make this decision, though.

We'll probably give our kids an American first name and an Indian middle name though.  That's about as far as we've gotten.  Kids are a good 3-5 years in the future for us.

  • We've agreed on Malia and Owen, but don't have any middle names.

  • We actually just agreed on Eleanor the other day for a still-pretty-far-off future girl. For boys I like Ryan James or Elijah James Ryan (I like 2 middle names for some reason). I also like off the wall biblical names for boys, like Ephraim, but J hates it.

  • For a boy we've discussed: Morris James, and so far the family loves it and said they would call the kid MoJo.  The names is both of our dad's 1st names.

For girls he likes Angela, which I hate.

But I don't want kids (at least that's how I've felt for a couple years now.)

  • I love Lucy, Olivia, and Grace for girls, and Benjamin and Jacob for boys.  Who knows what we'll end up with, though.

LOL! We're not having babies either
  • ew, no babies!
  • If I have twins, I'm naming them Scylla and Charybdis.

  • Caroline Kelly
    Nathan Walker

H's family has a tradition of giving the males in their family "W" middle names, and Wayne and William are too over-used. As it turns out, both of the middle names we've selected are family names for either one of us in our family lineage.
  • girl: Joslynn Nicole or Joslynn Amy...not sure..I like Giselle too, but FI not so much
boy: Brody Kevin or Jayden David...Kevin and David are our fathers names and its important to me to use their names, as my middle name and my brothers were from grandparents, and their middles names etc. I want to keep up that tradition =)

PLUS, I don't want to use a super common name. I want a different unique name, so when they go to school theres not 5 of the same name in one room lol.

  • Names that I like always change.  For H too.  We don't have girl names.  Never really have.  All the good ones are taken.  Olivia, Ella, Ava (way over done now), Callie, Isabella, Lily, Charlie.

I really like Geneva though.  And it's not common.

Boy names: Hudson, Avery, Noah.  H likes Ezekiel.  I think it's a little too out there though.

We are 20% decided on having kids, so this is fun just to pretend.

  • We have discussed names a bit but really differ on taste.  We were looking through a list of names and both really liked Johana and Beckett then realized they sounded so much like our names (John and Becca)  It made us feel conceited!

We both really like Emeline for a girl and Elijah for a boy.  He says he hopes we just have girls though because he remembers how ornery he and his brother were. If I remember correctly my sister and I were quite the terrors as well.

  • Boys: Jaxon Charles
    Mason William James

    Girl: Addison Rose Anne.

I always wanted two boys. And as you can tell I like 2 middle names. My sister has two and I was always jealous. Haha.

  • While babies for us are a ways off, we have decided on Dallas Wade for a boy and Rowan Lorraine for a girl.  W middle names are a tradition in FI's family and we both had a gma named lorraine.

  • We've talked alot about this...one day I said I like the names Malcolm and Xaiver. My FI said "I like them too. Let's just use both for a boy. Malcolm Xavier. I like it." I agree...for about 10 minutes until I realized we'd be naming our son Malcolm X...and that somehow didn't seem right. And now its killed both names for me..UGH!

    Boy: Tige (after my FI)
Girl: Jordan, Charlotte, Cecilia, Grace, Hannah (will use Mary as the middle name after my late mother)

We have a roadtrip game where one of us start by saying "what do you think of (name)" and we go back and forth over names we like or just randoms that come to mind. It kills time in the car and we've come up with some pretty great/funny names. Also helps eliminate one we really don't like.
  • Nope.  My FI doesn't think we should talk about this stuff until we're TTC/I'm pregnant.  And that's a few years off.  But philosophically, we're on the same page (no made up names, slightly different is good, but make it easy to pronounce and hard to mock).
  • We've talked about it, but we're not planning on having kids for another 5 years or so. But we both like Marin for a girl and Gabriel for a boy. I love Riley for either gender, but FI's not a fan.
  • We've talked about it and have a few top choices, but we haven't fully set our hearts on any one name.

The only definites are that we'll use my mom's first name as a middle name for our first daughter and that all names must work equally well in English and Spanish, which significantly reduces our options.
  • Boy: Raymond Anthony IV (after fiance)
Girl: Evangeline Marie (my middle name)

We also want a third, but have a hard time agreeing on a 3rd name. Hopefully by the time we have another coming, we will figure it out.
