Help with reception menu please :)

My wedding isn't for a while..it got pushed back because I found out my older brother is getting married next fall when I wanted too lol but I still want to stay ahead of the game. I'm trying to figure out a decent priced menu for my reception. Any ideas are welcomed !

    Welcome to the Knot.

Your question is very broad and probably not what you want to ask. The best question is one only you and your fiance can answer: how much can you afford? Planning a wedding is ALL ABOUT setting a budget first, then fitting into that budget what your vision for your wedding is.

A "decent priced menu" will vary from state to state, rural or main city, etc. You have to set the budget first, for example: Right now you have $X, and in the coming months before the wedding you can save $X, so your budget is (for example) $5000. The reception is the highest "budget eater", generally 60-80% of the budget. Divide that budgeted amount by the number of people you expect to invite, you have your per person cost. If your parents or your fiance's parents have OFFERED (you don't ask) to assist with expenses, then take that into account in your budget. But you need a set dollar amount, not "we'll pay for the flowers" or "we'll pay for the alcohol".

The easiest way to reduce your budget is to control your guest list, since that takes the most out of your budget. Setting your guest list count after you set your budget is the 2nd most important thing.

The Knot has many different boards, and this is a "topic board". Your question (and an introduction with details) is best posted on the Local Wedding Boards to the left. Click on it and go to the Michigan-Detroit board if you are getting married near Detroit. If you are planning a wedding for another part of the country, go to that board.

I'm on the Detroit board, and all the ladies are very friendly and helpful. Just come over and introduce yourself and we'll be more than willing to answer your questions, as well as input on vendors.
